was it extremely painful? Awful for you, have you tried deep tissue massage for your calf muscles?

Not extremely painful sore enough to let me know it's not ok to run on, I'm limping from time to time. I have another physio visit next friday. If I'm not ok by then I'll have a big decision to make

Im sure you will be ok by then, rest up this week and ice plenty, are you using any anti inflammatory meds?

You have a few weeks to recover and see how you are then.

I tried to do a easy run on grass on Tuesday couldn't manage two laps, I don't know if it's worth trying tomorrow again.

On the up side the club is getting a q&a tomorrow from a Ireland's Iron Man record holder on diet and nutrition should be interesting.

I thought I'd never say this but I have decided to not do DCM, I have been off for a month and while I have keeping fit with cycling I'm still not 100% and ignoring people's advice to run with my injury.

I've had people telling me I'm mad after all the training I put in so far maybe I am but I'm the one injured.

I will be aiming to do a marathon next year maybe Cork, I also have started doing core work with my club to keep me busy and help my running form.

Sorry to hear that Darren. Must be very disappointing but I think it's a good decision

Sorry to hear that Darren. The thought of not doing DCM this year has crossed my mind too a few times so I understand your decision.

Thanks every one I did think about running DCM slower and could manage to do DCM but I would be afraid Of get caught up in the race and do more damage.

It's not painfull Zooming just uncomfortable I won't be running until I'm 100% happy with it.

Such a shame with all your training, could it be ready by the end of October with treatment etc or did physio advise against it. I know how devastated you must feel it would be a shame to throw it all away if there is a chance you could recover in time? If not there is always a spring marathon. If I don't get into London I'm thinking of Manchester. Maybe that would suit you?

Physio was not telling me yes or no, it's something that I decided myself as too prevent further injury as I would know I'd go too fast for DCM. I'm thinking of Cork City Marathon in June next year.

So had a lot of time to think about next year and was seriously thinking of not doing any full marathon next year, instead spend the year traning with the club and do races up to half marathons and do DCM in 2015. Think it will give me time to work on my running form and have a good solid base going in to 2015.

Physio happy with my progress but was telling me to get out and run even a walk/jog would do or the problem could happen again so will be out on Sunday for a jog.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,687 ✭✭✭Darren 83

Got a dose of flu so couldn't attempt to go out last week got nearly 6k done with a jog/walk also did core with the club tonight.

It's been a long recovery and was delighted to be back out. :-D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 537 ✭✭✭zooming

    thats great, take it easy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,687 ✭✭✭Darren 83

Got out for a jog/run, happy with it so far it's like starting all over again.

It's a slow recovery but I have a great respect for any one who gets injured and comes back fighting.

Plan for the rest of the year is to recover slowly run on tuesday, Thursday and Sunday with core on Thursday as well.

I'd be stupid not to learn anything from the past two months so going to run less on the road watch the miles on my shoes a lot closer maybe new pair every 3 months or 300 miles and work on my core/running form.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,606 ✭✭✭RedRunner

I'd say every 500miles is enough on the new shoes.

Good to see you back running again

I read from 300 to 400 miles to be replaced depending on what surface you run on
