    Hey :)
    I was just wondering about doing science in college. From what I can see, if you want to end up as a teacher you can generally go down two routes. After first year, you could decide to study Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Applied Maths OR Chemistry, Biology and ag. science. ( I know this may be wrong but I'm just taking an example ) Basically, I was wondering if there's a course you cand do where you could end up being able to teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics because you don't seem to combine Physics with Biology from what I have seen!

    Most Science courses in Ireland allow you to specialise in either Physics-based options, or Biology-based options, or Chemistry/Bio-Chem-based. It's very rare to specialise (after 2nd year) in both Physics and Biology unless you do a second degree or try looking into a postgraduate degree/course.

    You can specialise in Physics, Biology and Ag Science OR Chemistry, Biology and Ag Science with the Science Education degree in Limerick (CAO code LM092). They also have a similar course to qualify in Physics and Chemistry only.

    Maynooth have a similar course where you can pick two from physics, chemistry, biology or maths. (They don't offer ag science).


    The main reason OP is that you have to have a certain proportion of your degree in each subject and you have to take that subject to the final year of your degree so if you were to qualify in Physics, Chemistry and Biology to final year you would not have the depth of information covered in the degree and would not be qualified to teach the subject.

    I did the UL degree and did Chem, Bio and Ag. The choice between Physics and Chemistry is made in second year so I did Physics in first year too before opting for chemistry. As there is a massive overlap in the biology and ag science courses some modules would count for both. I am now taking extra physics modules in college to make up for the shortfall in my degree so I can also register with the Teaching Council as a Physics teacher.
