Freeview/Freesat question

At moment we receive Freesat via a dish and a Sky digibox.

Have just purchased a DVD player with integral Freeview tuner. I know it's a long shot but is there anyway this will work with the existing dish; I know Freeview is a UK system, but would it be able to decode Saorview signals?

    I'm based in Dublin.

Freeview is the UK terrestrial broadcast service: a Freeview tuner won't get you anything from a dish.

It's unlikely that the tuner used in a DVD player will work with Saorview either, even if you connect an aerial. Post up the make & model for a look anyway.

Freeview is from an aerial. Freesat works from a Sat dish.
In regards to the freeview tuner, do you have an aerial? Do your neighbours get north of Ireland TV from their aerial?

Freeview requires an aerial pointing at a UK transmitter in NI or Wales, won't work with a satellite dish.

What is the make and model of the DVD combi? I don't think there are any with the required MPEG-4 video decoder for Saorview.

Replace the Sky box with a Freesat+ PVR to record the satellite channels. Separate Saorview PVR required for the Saorview channels.

Wow thanks for these speedy replies. It's a:-

    Panasonic DMR-EZ49VEBK DVD/VCR Combi

Fairly high spec on the DVD/VCR side but I'm not sure about the tuner.

That model has a Freeview only tuner. As posted above if your neighbours have Freeview, then you will probably get as well with the appropriate aerial. No Saorview, though.

Incidentally, Currys attribute an 'Irish digital tuner' to this particular machine.

Interesting terminology - do they mean Freeview, for the North? Btw I got mine in Tesco for €99, which has to be the bargain of the year :D

The big one opposite Glasnevin cemetery, but this was weeks ago and it was on a table with other "obsolete" stuff. Knocked down from €349 - someone must have looked at the "VHS" label on it and decided it was ancient...
