(post 991 for me and I've no one on ignore)

991 and I do - but not sure they've ever posted in this thread. Doubt it actually. The posts don't actually vanish, they just turn to a message telling you its not there.

074 is working the Ballina-Waterford timber train.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,427 ✭✭✭✭Oscar Bravo

079 worked the empty timber into Ballina this evening. 075 worked a liner into Ballina also.

081 was at Connolly shed at 7:00 this morning while 082 still on taras was held at Eastwall bank at 17:00 with the evening returns.

Is there any reason why the 071s (and any other engines for that matter) are not switched off at the end of day or are kept running for hours on end even if not being moved? That is the impression I get anyway. :)

I think the GM's are a bit better at the starting than others. Now the crossley HST Vee8 that's a completely different story........

Historically the 071s were difficult to start. Some terminal stations even had external power supplies to assist in starting them. The batteries were also uprated to improve their ability to start unassisted.

I didn't know that about the 071's. The 121,141 and the 181 Vee8's were a doddle to start (In comparison to the crossleys they replaced anyway)

Didn't see the engine, but I'm assuming it was an 071 that just hauled some flat bed trailers southbound through Connolly.

I am a fan of the 071 sound. Since I have better things to be doing I ended up YouTubing other locos with the same or similar engine. It turns out we can hear the familiar Irish rumble in a few places around the world.

Korea - The 16 cylinder instead of our 12 I believe. 1min 4 seconds on.

Poland (I think) - The start is cool, then more to 2.06.

Croatia - I think this is the same engine as the 071

New Zealand? - These three seem to be the same engine as the 071s

071 or 077 shut down in Carlow with autoblasters
    080 at Inchicore moving a 2700 set
    081 Ballina-Waterford DFDS

Any more sightings of 078 around Inchicore since that photo of it from March this year? Thought we would have seen it out by now.

The way they were chugging out the slate 071s I was expecting to see a new arrival any day now.

Think it hauled 230 from Connolly to Inchicore this morning.

Is 112 cleared to work to Inchicore or what was the reason for the stopover / loco switch in Connolly?

The loco is, but the NIR driver most likely isn't.

When 112 got to Connolly another loco would have had to shunt release 112 anyway to get 230 to Inchicore. In this case it stopped off in the shed for the night as it must have been a late transfer movement.

BTW, don't ever stand near those brown boxes at the south end of platform 6/7. The number of people using that area as a public toilet is disturbing.

082 sure is anyway. I went for an early night last night and the sound of 082 going through Howth Junction at 23:00 woke me up. I am used to trains passing and they never wake me but 082 is a beast on full power.
