They were in for him in January, to be fair.

    Still, they should f*** off.

He doesn't though, because Walters keeps going the same way. Comparing it with Benteke's second pen - put into the same bottom corner, but Benteke's was unsavable. Walters just didn't quite have as much power or accuracy.

And with Charlie Adam on the pitch, Walters shouldn't have been given it.

Anyway, we deserved the win. Hendo could have had a hat-trick (why did he come onto his left for his first chance??), and Bego was a star for them. Another season, that's a nailed on draw where we crow about not converting.

    From the echo

Willian looks 50:50 - which means he will sign for Spurs. Cissokho is close and Ilori is back on.

We played hard-ball with Cissokho on wages and seem to have won.
If we did the same with Sporting for the Ilori fee, I'd be most impressed.

But it all comes down to Willian. Just like we cannot afford to let Suarez go to Arsenal, we can't afford to lose him to Spurs. Even if Bale goes, they look very strong across the team now, and he would be another ugrade.

On the plus side - at least we are not Arsenal!!!!

If we are willing to pay £30 million for Willian we should be giving him £100K a week.

If we do that and he still goes to Spurs, it's ****, but we did what we had to do.

Hopefully we aren't messing around with lower offers. That was forgiveable with Sigurdsson, but not with Willian.

    Not in this case.

AVB is a Huge Fan of Willian. He has tried to sign him before for Chelsea, and now for Spurs.

@weeredman1 The noises coming out of London are that Spurs are increasingly confident of signing him.

#LFC have offered Anzhi €30m and 50% of any future fee if it exceeds €30m. He will decide by Tuesday. (@dimarzio)

If we sell Willian in the future for 40M, Anzhi gets 5M.

Interesting that they believe both clubs have met an asking price. This is the first time I'd seen this suggested, with other outlets saying Liverpool were a few million off Spurs' bid for the player.

This will come down to wages if it's true, and considering the player has already said he'd be happy to come to Liverpool, I'd say we can get him still.

    Alternate theory:

Willian: I want to go to Liverpool. I'm going to do this interview with ESPN.

Agent: Grand. Mention them by name but also be vague about it. Say something like "a great club like Liverpool".

*Does interview, immediately hits up Lucas/Coutinho on twitter when it gets out*

Agent: Liverpool are playing hard ball on wages because they know you want to come. I'm going to speak to Tottenham.

*Agent tells Tottenham of interest, leaks story of Spurs interest, Willian immediately hits up Paulinho/Sandro on twitter when it gets out*

It mightn't just come down to wages. Spurs have been finishing ahead of us. They've had CL football more recently than LFC. They're in London. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst on this one.

Agreed with the last bit, but this will come down to wages. He's happy to join Liverpool. In my opinion Spurs would have to convince him to join them. That means cash money.

Frankly I'd be more disappointed if we can't be competitive with wages after the cull of the last year.

Well he's following Rafael from United aswell, maybe it's just a case that he's joining the BPL and he wants to hook up with his countrymen who also play in the league??

Still though, will be very annoying for Spurs to pip us to another player

I'm pretty sure you have that wrong, if we sell him for 40 million, they get 20 million so we'd be better off selling him for 29,999,999 instead :P

I hope that's not true as that would be shockingly stupid.

I'd say the Rafael thing was to give that impression. It was probably meant as a sign of encouragement when he followed Lucas and Coutinho. Then when the Spurs interest came out and he followed their players, it was looking a bit obvious so he added Rafael to stop people looking into it too much. Ahem.

No, the mentions about the sell-on have all said it's 50% of anything above the £30M we are paying for him now...

That's how the ITKs are interpreting it.

MrBoywunder's Twit may not have the exact wording. It did came from an Italian Journo (Gianluca Di Marzio). So something that might have been Lost to Translation.

First we lose a tug of war for Mickey and then we lose our firm grip on Willy.

Makes me wonder how we ever landed Julian Dicks.

We wouldn't have seen the deal through long enough to see Seaman.

Out negotiationing skills are becoming a real phallucy.

I hope LFC have people in London this morning. Billy Hogan was meant to be working on this deal wasn't he?

Suits Anzhi and Willian to drag it out, get more clubs involed and have them battle each other. Not always the buying club's fault.

not much to say about the weekend game.

it felt like a lot of games we had last year, particularly in the first part of last season. we knock, knock and knock again without bashing the door down.

Sturridge made the difference with a bit of quality though. a 0-0 turned into a 1-0.

again, like last season, we're vulnerable to shooting ourselves in the foot with iffy defending.

    thank Christ for Mignolet.

i can't be too critical though. 3 points on the first day is all that matters. i'd like to see us be more clinical though. although, we might be able to be in future, as we only have to face Begovic one more time this season.

fúcking hell, that man can fúck off.

All we can do is guess what goes on during these negotiations but there's one thing for certain is that we're pretty crap at it.

I think the problem is we play hardball to not look like pushovers then a team like spurs comes in and says that the club can walk all over them.
