I think he may have paced this very well. Time will see.

Thought he was looking comfortable and looked like he was picking off runners from the little I have seen of him on the TV. Up to 33rd at the minute. Running a good second half so far. Could be a decent finish.

Top 20 finish? 1st European? Needs to catch that Spaniard.

21st Paul POLLOCK IRELAND IRL 2:16:42 SB

Great performance. 14 seconds away from a top-twenty position.

Second of the Europeans after this dude:
15th Javier GUERRA SPAIN ESP 2:14:33

Missed him crossing the line having watched BBC all the way! Great result for him I think, ran a decent race. Thought he would inch into the top 20. Would be interesting to get his own views.

Good running by Paul Pollock, just missing out on the top 20. Sergei Ciobanu came in home in 2.34 for 48th place. Hendrik Ramaala finished one place ahead of him. It was funny was the end of the race with all Kiplagats zigzagging but once the Ethitopian got dropped he fell back quickly.

I must say Gabby Logan on the BBC coverage is really starting to get on my nerves with her awful attempted puns and **** jokes

Some excellent field events coverage - could be a classic women's HJ.

Not one athlete got a pb in the marathon. It shows how good Paul Pollock's run was, getting to within 12 seconds of his.

Excellent 4 x 4. U.S. vs. Russia in the home stretch. Massive roars.

Great 4x400. Brilliant run by Krivoschapka.

My opinion on Farah (well the one I won't get banned for), is that whilst he's a good athlete and runner, he just happens to be the best 400m runner after a 4600/9600 run. If the 5k or 10k was done as a time trial, I don't think he'd win, and I don't think he'll have much success at Marathon as all the good long distance runners are there. Imo, 10k is a weak field, and I don't think many of them would have competed 10 years ago, and 5k was kind of ruined at these Championships as none of the 1500 guys could double up. Not saying Farah would be beaten if there was better competition as he is capable of the best last lap against any of them, but in a fast run race or a time trial, I don't think he'd win. I'm not sure he could go sub 13 and win the 5k tbh. He's fantastic atm, but wouldn't consider him in the same league as Geb, Bekele etc.

I think you're well off the mark here, and gerard_65 nails why. Apart from the comment at the end about Farrah being British. I see Farrah as African, Somalian. Happened that Britain 'adopted' him.

Also, he has 5 global gold medals. Why can't he be up there with Geb and Bekele? He's up there as an ATG at 5 and 10 k. He is in the running to be considered the GOAT

Bolt does the double. I'm pretty confident in saying that Bolt will never get close to his WRs again.

Agreed, the women's pole vault and men's high jump have been two highlights of the champs so far for me, along with Dibaba in the 10,000m.

How is Tiffany Porter and one of the girls in the relay in any way GB? Big American accents on them. I don't believe you should be able to change countries.

Felt sorry for that Kenyan guy who didn't get a bronze in the javelin. Enjoyed the relay. If Felix had been in it think the US would have won it tho.

rollins did well to win after that slow start in the hurdles

well done to gemili mixing it up with the big boys

1500 should be interesting ...hard to look beyond kiprop

been a funny old year in athletics.....lot of strange goings on

Apparently Bolt put in a complaint to the IAAF about an Irish journalist asking him a doping question in the mixed zone after his 200m. Wasn't any of us, so am guessing he picked up the accent wrong. How ridiculous to go and report that though!

As an aside, that must have been the worst 200m final in a long time. He ran the last 30m as if it was a heat. What on earth is he saving himself for? And every time he or the other Jamaican athletes win gold Bob Marley gets blared out from the speakers. No other country gets their national ceoil belted out. It's easy to get sick of him tbh, but he is a necessary evil for the sport.

He ran hard. He just tired towards the end. It was clear to see. You don't run a 19.66 if you're running a "heat" kinda' race, even if you are Usain Bolt. As for getting sick of him? Jeez, athletics has waited for his likes for a long time, and now you're sick of him?

As an American it kind of winds me up- that being said- her mother is British I believe. I think its fair enough that you could represent the country of your mother. If my daughter grows up to be a world class athlete :D I'd like to hope she could represent either here (her mother's country or the USA (mine)

Watch the race again. He totally eased up. Clear for anyone to see. So frustrating to watch.

I must do. I did think, however, that he looked a little tired. As my earlier post suggests, I think Bolt is declining. His absolute peak was 2009. He even looks different when sprinting now. Missing some of that explosiveness. Body, weight, age, nature, all playing their part.

i thought bolt eased up too

not much incentive for fast times when he already got the WR's

Its Tiffany Porter. Dawn Porter is married to Chris O'Dowd. Dont think she hurdles either!

I agree that the nation switching can be ridiculous with the ethiopians and kenyans running for Gulf nations but I think you should be allowed run for the country your parents are from.

Bolt eased in the last 5m
but he did tire a bit with 50m to go

Whoever the Irish journalist was, it was the correct question to ask. It's the question that a lot of people asks themselves when they watch sprints the likes of we saw today. 19.66 jogging towards the end- I'm sorry but I'd say that's as much a necessary evil to athletics as LA was necessary to TdeF for years.

How do you think Mo Farah would have faired today in the mens marathon?

Seems to me that he would win that one too. Then afterwards people would moan about the time yet when a Ugandan does it he is a tactical genius!

The saddest part of the sprints of these championships was Allyson Felix doing her hamstring in the final. She is the one top sprinter out there that I truly believe in. Like Paula in the long distances down the years, Felix is somebody who retains faith in a discipline when others around them try their best to destroy it. But instead of her claiming her 4th gold, we had a podium full of people who went silent when asked about their opinion on lifetime bans in the 100m press conference only a few days earlier!
