Looks like we're getting a 3 point head start on Arsenal anyway.

Crucial and it makes for a nice change for once.

Too often it's been the other way around and we'd already be playing catch up.

Villa next week will be a very tough game.

They broke Arsenal's heart and brought an intensity to the game that they couldn't deal with. Their tackling in the middle of the field was ferocious but Arsenal played into their hands somewhat with their slow lethargic build up.

Benteke will grab the headlines with his two goals, but it is important to remember that one was rebound from a missed penalty, and the other a penalty.

They will be a tough proposition next weekend.
Benteke will be a big test for Toure. He probably has the pace to match him so if he can hold his own physically he'll hopefully keep him quiet.

Yep but there was alot more to Villa's play today than just Benteke.

Benteke was good with the knock downs from the long balls, but he didn't really threaten the Arsenal goal too much from open play. Plus Kolo is probably faster than Speedy Gonzalez Mertesacker.

Kolo seems like an excellent addition, on and off the field. Been impressed with his performances so far, and adds much needed steel and leadership.

And a LOL factor. That sprint he did from CB into the box to get ahead of whoever had the ball had be in knots :D

Nice summary piece about Liverpool game today from F365..

    http://www.football365.com/f365-says/8875248/F365-Focus

    Promising Liverpool retain profiligate streak:

In the final few games of last season, a Liverpool sans the hungry Luis Suarez performed pretty well. They took Newcastle apart, then beat Fulham and QPR - not exactly wins to make the competition tremble, but it did at least provide some indication that they were not totally reliant on their toothy talisman.

Those Liverpool fans who got giddy about those games might have been similarly encouraged by their defeat of Stoke on the opening day of the new season. Indeed, an entertaining front three of Philippe Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge and Iago Aspas linked up rather nicely, switching positions and flitting hither and thither to make Stoke's defence look like immobile lumps (Erm... - Ed) for much of the first half.

Aspas in particular gave a promising performance, adding some credence to the impression from pre-season that Liverpool have made a very useful signing. The mini Spaniard yapped and snapped at the feet of Stoke's big units, creating five chances in just 72 minutes on the pitch - only Coutinho made more, and he played the full 90. Either through his exciting play or his rather short fuse, Aspas is shaping up to be a hugely entertaining addition to Liverpool and the Premier League.

And yet, for their dominance (Liverpool had 55% possession, 25 shots to Stoke's 11, twice as many corners), they could have thrown away the points thanks to Daniel Agger's curious arm flap, giving Simon Mignolet the chance to recover from an occasionally iffy initial performance with his terrific penalty save.

The key stat is in that last paragraph is the number of efforts Liverpool had. Obviously one could quite easily attribute the meagre conversion rate to an excellent performance by Asmir Begovic in the Stoke goal - the Bosnian keeper was very good indeed, making a couple of quite outstanding stops, the pick being a fingertip onto the post from a Jordan Henderson effort.

However, of their 25 efforts, 11 were on target, five were blocked and nine were off target - Begovic can't take all of the credit for keeping the score low. Liverpool displayed a familiar profligacy that must be infuriating for the Anfield crowd. Against better and more potent teams than Stoke (only QPR scored fewer than them last season) they will be punished.

At present it looks likely that Suarez will be reintegrated, with the reports that he has apologised to Brendan Rodgers seemingly backed up by his presence at Anfield for the game, even though he won't be available for another five games. And, of course, he would be welcomed back into the team with wide open arms.

Opta stats from last season indicated that Suarez was the most reliable 'big chance' convertor in the Premier League, sticking away 53% of such opportunities. For comparison, Robin van Persie knocked in 43%, Michu 46%, Romelu Lukaku 38% and Edin Dzeko 37%, while Olivier Giroud was way down at 17%. The definition of exactly what a 'big chance' is isn't made clear by the stat chaps, but we can make a decent guess - the short version is that Suarez scores when it matters. He scores when Liverpool need him to.

On the face of things, their reported interest in players like Christian Eriksen and Willian make little sense - they have the players to create the chances, but need someone to convert them. However, should Sturridge and the absent Suarez dovetail as they did on occasions last season, they might not need anyone else.

Liverpool's start against Stoke was encouraging, but it should not convince anyone that they can do without Luis Suarez.

While performance outweighs everything I will say this,

We have a squad of mentalities right now that cannot be bought.

Suarez is perhaps the exception, but the following

Agger, Gerrard, Inho, Toure, and Henderson are the abosulte embodiment of what it means to be an LFC player. What ever about ability in the cae of Henderson, the kid has heart. Seeing the pics of Toure, and the words he's said so far he really seems to be elated at being with LFC...

I know its easy to get all romantic following a victory, but its days like today when there is little to complain about when we should stand back and realise that the mentality of this team is fantastic...The celebration with Mignolet after the save was immense...absolute hair raising stuff.

    Great, I sound like Rodgers.

25 shots today and 1 goal.

United have had 8 shots in the first half of their game and 2 goals.

Still an area that needs to be improved.

+1, seems to be a great sense of togetherness about the team.

Hopefully we can get a bit better of an atmosphere in Anfield to make it more intimidating for the away side, was very quiet until we got the goal.

    It's Worrying.

But then again, unlike Stoke, Swansea didn't Park the Bus so to speak. So Scoring against them is alot easier than Scoring against Stoke.

No he is not and I think the club were wrong, a loan would of been the smart move.

They also have the best striker in the league arguably playing for them which helps.

    Bebe I mean obviously.

Not to us! This news just means Real will sign the Granada CF LB who's value rocketed in 24 hours.

Bit unfair. Begovic stopped a few that on other days would have been dead certs.

Jonjo actually created 2 Chances for Swansea. It's just that Michu and Chico failed to Score them.

Could still pick out 5/6 shots today that should have resulted in goals and were badly wasted.

I wouldn't mind too much if it was just today.

But our shots/goals ratio has been poor for a few seasons now and today was just another example of that.

Good result today. The fact that their keeper was man of the match was telling to how the game went. I thought we were going to rue all those missed chances when the penalty was given. Fair play to Mingloet stepped up to the mark.
I think next week will be tough away against Villa

It's true, but thankfully we are creating the chances.

I was actually looking forward to Premier Soccer Saturday, then I remembered they could not afford it any-more, because of Pat Kenny's wages.

I think people get too attached to the younger players (Suso, Pacheco, Doni, etc). Shelvey might have a decent career yoyoing between the championship and the PL but he is nowhere near good enough for the club.
