Nuclear Fusion ITER

    That big oul yolk that is being built in France ITER.

    So I get the concept of fusion, and that the energy plasma generated needs to be contained within a magnetic field - so how do you generate electricity from it? What are the mechanisms involved to turn water to steam to power generators?

    Must say, am always bemused at why Greenpeace are so against the ITER.

    They have a page on their website which is full of fallacies saying it will produce large amounts of nuclear waste and material which can be used in nuclear weapons. None of this nonsense has a shred of truth to it.

    I've already posted a link to the cooling system

    look up the amount of material they have in the plasma at any one time , it's a near vacuum, this isn't like fission where you need a critical mass

    it was less about overheating and more about if the plasma found a way out of the tokamak. yeah actually trawled through like 20-odd videos from the iter site, found that they only have enough material for 2 seconds worth of fusion in the machine, and that the gasses around the edge are cooler. well, several million degrees, but cooler. and the outside is refigerated to 4K so i suppose if it lost magnetic containment they couldnt feed it any more fuel and it would cool. still, if that plasma ever made it past the magnets...
