World Champion Rob said this morning on Cork's 96fm to World famous radio presenter Mr Neil Prendeville that he only got 1 yellow card.

Who is right and who is wrong??

As an interesting aside, I just came across this on letsrun. Nick Symmonds speaks out against Putin's disgusting new anti-gay laws. This has definitely soured the whole championships a bit for me.

Yeah was actually gonna put that up myself but didn't really wanna wade into politics on the A/R/T board. That said - I've always really liked Symmonds and this only increases the respect I have for him...

As much as the dopers make the USA team a bit tough to cheer for, athletes like Symmonds and Jordan Hasay are some of the classiest in the sport.

Oh and while we're on the subject of USATF- I'd love to see Mary Cain steal a medal tonight!

Slow tactical race and you never know what might happen! Very hard to look past Aregawi though.

I was really fearful with about 700 metres left, just before they go into the stadium. You can clearly see an official approach him and begin a gesture which I thought was going to be a card. Not sure now if it would have been the final card or not. The camera kinda shifts focus and the commentators on Eurosport didn't say anything.

Agreed about the politics thing, it's just kinda hard to not talk about it cause it's such a big thing. Anyway, moving on...!

Yeah I really hope Cain can steal a medal, I put her down as my bronze surprise in the predictions thread, I thought she ran very smart in the semi.

This Cain, is she even 18 yet? Will be interesting to see if she can improve or if she'll level off soon. Same as with that English girl, Judd. Didn't see the 800 this morning.

We had the media 800m race this afternoon. I managed 2:21.77 to finish 19th overall out of 154. Not a PB, but the fastest I have run in a race. Not a great run to be honest, and preparations were shocking with being sick the last week, no training, all the running around all week, and on the beer celebrating Rob's gold. Went out at a suicidal 31 for the first 200m. They didn't have us in lanes, and the start was carnage. Couldn't get into lane 1 until about 60m in and spent a good bit of that in lane 3. Didn't get my 400m split but think it was around 69. Just didn't quite have the energy today.

Some craic though. Yohan Blake firing the starting gun and giving out the prizes. Nick Symmonds watching also. Alex from Flotrack was in my heat, and Ryan was recording the videos of it and interviews so coverage should be on Flotrack later!

Cathal came 3rd overall with a ridiculous negative split of 64-61 to run 2:05 in training shoes with no warm up. Makes ya sick!

There was a Russian lad who looked the business. We reckoned he was a sub 1:50 lad. He ended up with 2:07. Spoofer.

Both are right, he got one yellow and one red from what I can make out

Yellow cards are a warning that the walker is being watched and that their technique has been spotted to be slightly wrong. Its a caution, and once a judge gives a walker a yellow, the judge cannot caution them again. If a walker looks to be very much breaking the rule, they are shown a red. Its three reds and you are gone.

I heard the Eurosport commentator clearly say he saw Rob get a red card, which was after the yellow caution he got earlier in the race, hence why everyone thought he was on two reds, a third of which would have seen him dq'ed, but in fact he only had one.

Sounds good craic ok, how many of media events are there? Or is it just the 800? Was it run at the stadium?

Which heat should we be laughing at?

    Edit: It's heat 12.

Men's high jump is a superb competition at the moment, world record could go!

Jesus Bondarenko looks phenomenal. 7 athletes still there at 2.35. This could be a very special HJ competition

Drouin of Canada clear at 2.38 - Olympic champion Ukhov is out, horrible looking final jump, even more horrible was Thomas of Bahamas

2.41 - first time in championship three men in at that height in a final

Just came back into the room for the anthem. That High Jump is something else. Sotomayor, God I remember those days well - imagine two or three jumping 2.45 for the Gold!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,062 ✭✭✭Itziger

    What a brilliant race!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,248 ✭✭✭✭rebel girl 15

Watched it on BBC2, thought he'd lose it when the anthem came on, got wobbly but got through it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,062 ✭✭✭Itziger

    2.46.......? Can he do it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,248 ✭✭✭✭rebel girl 15

Holding the women's 1500 until the high jump is over - experience will tell in dealing with it!

Not to be for Bondarenko but he looked really good there, not last jump, but the previous.
