Tuam Golf Club Scratch Cups turned out to be a huge success on Saturday with over 200 players teeing off.
Round of the day went to Eddie McCormack of Galway GC who captured the Valeo Vision Systems Senior Scratch Cup with a 1 under par round of 71 while Peter Ryan Jnr triumphed in the Gleeson's Pharmacy Junior Scratch Cup with a 3 over par total of 75. The Dan McGrath Memorial Intermediate Scratch Cup was won by Martin Corcoran with an 80 whilst the inaugural Minor Scratch Cup sponsored by WERS Waste & Recycling was won by our former secretary Jerry Bradley.

Played Dundalk today, not very successful, two +5's. Aaron Grant shot a course record 65 (-7) in the morning that included three bogies. I didnt hang around afterwards but believe he'd 72 this afternoon and won by a few.

Yeah he had 72 this afternoon.

65 was an unreal score, especially with a decent breeze. +1 thru 6 as well i heard. 3 eagles in 2 rounds.

Good to see the greens back to a good standard. One of the better scratch cups in the year.

i'm having horrible trouble scoring on 12 lately, pain in the face.

im going to try a new tactic on Saturday which involves multiple 7 irons!

or you could just hit your 2nd into the gur and take your bogey(hopefully)from the drop zone

its a ridiculous hole that 12th, even more so when you play off the forward tees.

County Louth GC, Baltray, "Eugene Gillan" Minor Scratch Cup, ( 18+) on next Saturday 17th August .
Entrance fee is only €30 which looks excellent value.

if I could keep my first in play that would be a good option!

It's a bit Micky Mouse alright. Hit a good drive to it today followed by a massivley high 7 iron - landed middle left and proceeded to trickle right and off the green.

Driving the 13th green made up for it though :D

Need to aim for the left fringe to get it to stick ;)
    (easier said than done)

Yeah its a decent enough track with some good holes, and your description of short and tight is accurate enough. If you were playing well it wouldn't present too much difficulty. I wouldn't be driving big distances for it though.

Already have matt. shame, would have been a good time. Don't suppose you might have an other half who wants to mind my kids for me while we hit the white ball together! :)

In fairness, she never does anything at weekends and has arranged to meet her sister. my only gripe is she is meeting at 11:30. If she left it a couple of hours, I could have played in the morning!
