Looking on G.U.I website I see the Intermediate Scratch Cup at Doonbeg is on Thursday 08th August. as I am on holidays next week I am contemplating playing but it is 60 euros entry. Having played the intermediate scratch in Tralee and had a particularly difficult day am I likely to face a similar 'baptism of fire' at Doonbeg? or would it be recommended....I am finding strokeplay particularly problematic at the moment...especially on the more serious courses. Question is, is it worth the money?
Personally I'd say no it's not worth it, especially considering it's on a week day and not the weekend, Tralee was only €35 and was on Saturday.

I agree. I've just posted in the open events thread about Tralee having open singles and team of four events in the next few weeks for €35. Way better value there

There are four scratch cups taking place at Tuam Golf Club on Saturday, August 10 (senior, junior, intermediate and minor) and it is €15 for visitors which is great value considering it is on a weekend. A great track too.

Didn't want to start a new thread for this lads, but was just looking at results of Inter Scratch Cup from Westmanstown last Sunday and was wondering - does anyone know if there was changes made to Westmanstown in the last couple of years? I last played it about 2 years and I was sure it was a par 69? It's now a par 71... am I right or am I dreaming... again??

I haven't played it but a friend of mine is on the green staff there and he raves about the place (self praise is no praise I hear you say:P). But I've only heard good reports on it in general. Greens are supposed to be great there.

I've played it a few times. Yup greens are bang on, nice track. Couple of monotonous holes(parallel fairways similar width) in the middle but finishes well.

Tbh I wouldn't travel more than an hour for a game there.

tuam scratch cups at €15 next Saturday 10th August looks great value. Despite what people might think this is a very good test of golf. The irish journalists played their inter-pros there last year and were raving about the place
