I think you do need to register over wifi first. Then you can use USB to transfer books.

    Hi,

Just got this last week and having problems with it.

After selecting language on it it directs me to a page to connect up, via wifi, to their site to register. I have no wifi at home and I can't navigate from this page to up-load books I have on my computier.

    Any help guys?

Use your phone as a wifi hotspot or go to somewhere with free wifi, loads of places offer it now.

Did you root it or do a trick to skip registering?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 716 ✭✭✭soirish

Seriously guys dont see a reason to root it since you can enjoy all Calibre books for free, don't want any iPad functionality, this is a simple eReader.

I charged mine one about 2 weeks ago. I've read a good few hours on it. Charge doesn't seem to have dropped much.

I've had mine a couple of months now and it's one of the best €35 I've ever spent. I couldn't be without an e-reader ever again. Love it. Thanks OP.

Probably a stupid question but what are "Calibre" books ?

I got a nook and haven't done anything about rooting it etc.

I just want to use it as a eReader and keep it nice and simple to use.

Calibre is software for converting ebooks between different formats.

Just received mine from Asda via Flubit - cost was €29 with the discount plus €3.50 delivery from parcel motel. Got a cover for €5.50 from Ebay.

Calibre is software for converting ebooks between different formats.

It can also be used for downloading newspapers, magazines or web articles from sites like Cracked. So you can download your papers of choice onto the Nook each day. Very handy, especially for someone with a bus/train commute.

I rooted mine and installed ReadItLater. I have a button on my bookmark bar in work and when I see an article I'd like to read later I click it. After I leave work I magically have all these articles synced and I can...eh...read it later.

I do use it to read books most of all though.

Do you leave wi-fi turned on? That drains the battery.

Battery life is still good enough to leave wifi on 24/7, not having to have it on the charger once a week is more than good enough for me.

I haven't charged mine in months. I'm kinda worried I'll forget all about it and be left with no charge on a 3 hour bus at some point though.

On the battery issue, maybe let it drain to 0% and then charge 100%?

Also, can anyone recommend settings to use in Calibre? as anytime I convert something to epub format there's lots of mangled and mixed up text, which ruins the reading experience

    Thanks in advance ;)

These look to be available on the pcworld.co.uk website. Will I have problems ordering with an Irish credit card through parcel motel?

You will. I tried to order with currys uk using parcel motel and got as far as putting in card details but they wouldn't accept it.

I got an offer from Flubit using the Curry's link for £25 (would it have worked that way, I'm not sure) but had already bought one on Littlewood's for €40.

Would it not be easier to get them from littlewoods.ie?

So everyone here was talking about how you can use Calibre to convert your kindle books so they can be read on the nook .

However I have gotten Calibre but none of my Kindle books will convert to nook supported books ?! Am I doing something wrong or is there a way around this or how can I get my kindle books onto my nook ?

    Thanks in advance !

I ordered one from littlewoods.ie a few days ago for 40 euro. Dispatched yesterday.

Couldn't get any discount codes to work :(

Did you choose to convert them to 'epub' format?

When you click 'convert book' you should see a little drop down box on the top right that sets the output format, choose 'epub'.

I tried that but it says it is blocked by DRM ? Is there another option .
This is happening with all my kindle books.
Would the only option be to root my nook to get the kindle app ?

I may get in trouble for posting this:

(mods - these plugins are for removing DRM from content that you already own and have paid for)

I realise this is off topic.. has anyone figured how to subscribe to a magazine on the nook? I get "not available in your area"

Yeh,I'm the same.Tried to sign up to the 14 day free trial and it says "We are unable to process your order at this time because your credit card issuer is not approving the charge. Please contact your credit card issuer for resolution."
I have tried with 2 different cards but keep getting same message. My a/c's are all in credit so should be no problem.
