Hey guys, just trying to gauge interest in a potential powerlifting soc Id like to start. not really sure what's the best way to go about it, but its all a waste of time if it doesnt have enough interest anyway. I know this board hasnt the biggest tcd userbase, so any other suggestions on how to gauge interest are much appreciated.

    cheers

As far as I'm aware there's a cap on the number of sports clubs and we're at the limit, so it's a no go at the minute

As was said there is a cap on sports clubs at the moment, but I myself was thinking of starting a society that was more general incorporating powerlifting, bodybuilding, calisthenics, crossfit, oly lifting and just general gym interest. If you are interested pm me your email address and we can see what we can do.

A bodybuilding/powerlifting soc wouldn't need to compete or that much funding so it could easily be through CSC rather than DUCAC which makes that much easier.
    Would be interested.

As far as I'm aware there is a powerlifting soc in Trinity. I've definitely seen posters in the gym for it. You should go in and ask them there

Is that not an oly weightlifting soc?
As far as I'm aware it's not registered with the CSC.

Seeing as Power Lifting is now frowned upon in the gym, it's probably a non-starter. I've heard a few instructors tell lads it's no longer allowed.

you have to be joking me. "sorry guys, only dyel's and curlbro's allowed here. If you want to do real lifts you cant use this gym we forced you to pay for in your registration"

the more a learn about that gym the more i hate it. Maybe if they didnt discourage real compound ezxercises so much, 99% of the gym wouldnt be skinnyfat plebs. Worst part is, only 2 of the pt's ive seen there actually look like theyve ever touched a weight in their lives.
Those ****ing 200 euro 12weeks courses to become a "certified fitness expert"
jesus i hate that place lmao

Yeah, what do you mean by that? Someone was deadlifting and the staff said not to do that? :P

    Surely he means olympic lifting?
I can see the lack of space making it difficult to that safely

Hm. I saw some gym instructor showing someone how to do the snatch not too long ago in the gym.

There is an Oly soc , there is equipment , bumper plates , false floor.

signed up in freshers week haven't heard anything so far.

Weights area in the gym is just too damn small for people to be C&J and Snatches Safely. One guy fell over monday just trying to move an empty barbell and was lucky not to brain some guy on a bench.

Going by track record , the stretching room has been turned into a Keiser room , the Keiser room is now a spinning room , I can only imagine management putting Oly lifting equipment in the showers.

Hey guys, I've decided to make a stab at creating a Gym Soc.
Here is a link to the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/TCD-Gym-Soc/233685633464342
First objective is to 200 sigs and id numbers, I will hopefully have a list to sign next to the weights area in the next few days after I get the ok from sport centre staff.
Like the page if you want to be kept up on how things progress.
    Thanks.

Hey great to see this. I saw there was someone trying to get an Olympic lifting soc going, FB page set up etc etc but have heard nothing since.

Would be very interested but am total novice......that ok?

Jesus … the judgment. I don't understand the mentality of looking down on anyone who is in the gym trying to get in shape. Everybody has to start somewhere.

Is that for real or is that a parody of what people would think TCD students sound like? You did get a double whammy by judging people's size and fitness and also calling them plebeians...so well done in any case !
