What it would do is make teams endlessly attempt drop goals. Any law changes involving scoring should exclusively be aimed at encouraging teams to score more tries.

But as it happens I think the scoring system is just fine as it is.

It's kind of difficult to do that through changing the points system - if they make tries worth more then there's more incentive to be cynical and concede 3 rather than - say - 6/7/8 points for a try.

They probably don't want to make an (unconverted) try worth 6 points either, as it would likely lead to more draws.

Maybe we just leave it the way it is. :p

    Ooh! Like it!

How about we just also move the posts around to the half-way lines, and play across the pitch? With a far wider, shorter pitch, every game will be a try-fest!

And since we don't need to resize the pitch, it's even a practical suggestion. Aren't I clever...

Guetteba usually runs the show when it comes to highlights, but for me Adam Keane has him beat with his lions one.

    Read it again
The team who failed to score with an attempted drop goal gets penalised by losing ground and a scrum awarded to the other team.

Doesn't matter if it's Aussie. They still give away a scrum penalty. So would have been a perfect tactic for the Lions.

Yeah, cause what we need is more scrums... :P

Absolutely as its true sign of team discipline and strength .
Harsher penalties for deliberate take downs of scrums and remove the lifting in the line outs .

We should get rid of the backward pass rule. That's just a silly one.

    And we should introduce rackets

Two crazy rules I'd like to see for fun

    1) When a team is behind in last 10 minutes and scores a try they can opt for scrum on the 22 rather than a conversion

    and

    2) Whoever scores a try has to take the conversion mainly to watch the frontrowers trying it lol

In a recent 7's tournament a few of the props make mockery of your lol :D

Interesting that Barrett received a red card for this stamp/ruck.

In my view it was a total step down from what Horwill did, and how reckless Horwill was. Pollock makes the point that it's reckless around the head, and so sends him off.

Consistency, that's the word that we can't use when talking about the laws of rugby and how they're implemented.

Wow, that's a very harsh red. Technically there is contact with the head, but it's nothing more than glancing

It's harsh but did the referee have any choice?

It's a boot to the head. Of course you see that and then you see Horwill get off for what he did AWJ and that's where it gets frustrating especially given the referee was the same bloke but I suppose he can only rule on what he sees, albeit he got some help this time around.

Saw this on twitter last night - really hope true rugby supporters weren't involved, seems like some nasty tweets to a guy that had nothing to do with O'Driscoll being dropped.

    From the Telegraph
Jonathan Davies victim of Twitter abuse and threats after displacing Brian O'Driscoll in Lions side for deciding Test
Davies said: “There was a lot of stuff on Twitter but I tried not to take too much notice of it. I had some good advice from players like Mike Phillips who just told me to ignore it.

“I was just grateful to have been given the opportunity to win the series. I did get a bit of verbal abuse and people wanting to break my legs and stuff. But I didn’t really care.

    Idiots are everywhere, unfortunately.

Really, abusing people over the internet over somebody else's selections... Bottom of the barrel stuff there.

It never ceases to amaze me that people seem to be surprised to find out that the world is full of idiots.

I see PR makes makes people sign in via Facebook etc now to post comments...which have absolutely dried up as a result, no-one prepared to reveal their true identity. PR was a wasteland of reasoned argument, so probably a good thing.

Happened a bit here but not directly to the player I suppose.

Does that mean you think it was OK to send nasty things to those who did?

I think if you read any of my posts on this forum around team selections you'd know I don't but whatever people think of the selectors tweeting/posting abuse about/to the selected player is certainly unacceptable and juvenile.

I actually stopped reading their articles because of the comments. Seemed like a play ground such was the childishness.

That and a lot of the articles were misinformed or copy + paste jobs.

I like their teams of the week etc but their run of the mill articles aren't so great. Their match previews/reviews can be way off the mark.

No he was not. Any suggestion that he was is utter horsesh*t.
