Mirrorless cameras

I bought a Cannon 600D a while ago and am very happy with it from a (re)learning the basics of photography point of view and the picture results compared to point and shoots and camera phones.

However I got my hands on a Sony NEX-6 briefly and I was struck by the size of it. The owner claimed it could do virtually everything a DSLR could do in a much smaller package.

IS this the case? Are new mirrorless cameras as full featured and tweakable as DSLRs?

Yes.

The main players are Olympus and Panasonic Both use the micro 4/3 lens mount. There's also Sony and Fuji. Nikon and Canon are testing the waters.

APS-C, not to sure if it is 1.4 crop

my olympus is m43, so i read somewhere it's like half the size of a full frame sensor, making m43 is smaller than aps also.

the canon mirrorless cam uses aps sensor though. can't say for the sony, or nikon as i don't know anything about those mirrorless cams

love my mini pen, but i wouldn't give up my dslrs for it. it works great for daytime, but i'm not too pleased with long exposure work on it.

The new Olympus em-5 AND EPL5/EPM2 sensors are fantastic but it obviously depends on the glass you're using.

If you're printing out photos then I can't see how you'd see the difference in the photos (Without editing)

Having said that ever since I used the X100 and Fuji X camera range I'm getting out of DSLR's and M4/3's altogether. Image quality on the X100S is simply out of this world.

While I had a look at that site you linked the image quality seems to be very noisy on the OMD at 3200 Compared to the x100s, There's no comparison in my opinion at the lower ISO's. The X100 wins hands down (look at the paper clips).
Not to mention if you like Night photos the Fuji can practically see in the dark.

I've had the X100 (non-s version) and currently have the EPL5 (same sensor as the OMD-EM5 - i've it up for sale on adverts) and can tell you the difference in image quality IMO is like Night and Day. I'm no professional (not by a long shot) but to me the X100 and m4/3 is like showing someone the difference between Blu-Ray and DVD. Skin tones, clarity, Noise ,etc just so perfect on the Fuji.

Then again maybe I'm just not good enough to bring out the better qualities of the EPL5
