So I decided to relearn how to type again properly and its a painful experience. So to help I ordered a dreamcast keyboard and grabbed a copy of the typing of the dead to help. Good laugh so far but I'm painfully slow compared to my chicken typing!

Got myself a fantastic little game I was after for ages now. Umihara Kawase Shun Second Edition:

Great game, was the first game I bought my first time in Tokyo a couple of years ago.

On a related note, tickets now booked for trip number 3 :)

    Hah, brilliant!

I can remember having typing classes back in school where they'd be beating you into using the traditional method and keeping your fingers on the home keys.

Absolutely hated it! Still don't type like that to this day.

Used to take my typing really seriously. How sad. Even popped all the buttons off my Model M keyboard and arranged them around to form dirty words. (and so my folks couldn't use my PC as nobody else in the house was able to touch type :D)

Mavis Becon never managed to get me to type the way she wanted. Although I used to play the games on there just to see what would happen when I failed

Developed my own way growing up and going on the computer almost every day haha. Just watching my hands now and they are all over the shop but sure it works! :D

I can just about touch type, it freaks me out sometimes when I dont realise I'm doing it and my fingers are basically moving by themselves!

Put the PSU back in the box and keep it for something Jamma/useful and get one of these instead for the 60-in-1.

    Otherwise nice haul :)

It is Jamma im putting in the cocktail table, that psu needs to supply the monitor too dont think that plug you linked will work for that?

The 60-in-1 boards have a 4 pin molex connector for power or you can take power from the jamma connector.

Those Jamma power supplies don't drive the monitor as well do they ?

Much thanks to Achilles, got the NES working after disabling the chip, never have I kacked myself so much with a pin !!! :D

I dunno, i figured they did thats why i bought it! haha.. am i wrong? how do you power an arcade monitor then?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,729 ✭✭✭The Last Bandit

They have there own psu built into the chassis.

Ah sure that jamma power supply will be handy for something else, one thing I don't like about them is the exposed mains voltage connection though.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,400 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

ok, well i bought that cable you linked to power the 60in1. when thats plugged into the jamma harness, will the speakers, buttons etc work now too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,729 ✭✭✭The Last Bandit

The jamma harness just needs the buttons, speaker (its mono) and video connected to it and you're good to go, that PSU will connect directly into the board.

You can set the board to freeplay if the coin slot is not going to be used.

I have a 60in1 in another cab already, i have all games on it except donkey disabled so it boots straight into that. ill be doing the same on this one except booting to space invaders, the reason i bought that psu is because the other cab has one of those in it and i thought it was needed to power the monitor and jamma harness stuff.

I know they get a bit of stick, but those 60-in-1 are really decent boards for the price !!

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,400 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

ah they are great! an overlooked thing on them i think, is that if you disable all games on it except 1, it boots straight into that game, skipping that horrible menu. its brilliant for my Donkey Kong cab and will be great for this space invaders cocktail.

Any details on that 60in1 board? As in the exact one you have.
Might grab one if they are half decent.

    Its one of these ones..

    http://www.arcadebits.com.au/24-61-thickbox/60-in-1-jamma-game-board.jpg

I bought it off Frothmeister on jamma+ for £45 including postage to ireland.

I have one already and they are great. all vertical games, boots up in a minute to a menu with 60 games on it. pacman, DK, Space Invaders etc..

The reason i like these, is that you can disable games on them, but if you disable 59 games on them, it will boot straight into the enabled games front screen so it looks like the original in your cab. I have one in my Donkey Kong Cab already and this one is going in the space invaders cocktail. only downside is it takes about 120 seconds too boot up.

Ive also heard some people complain about the sound in some of the games. I never noticed any of this, i think its probably 1 or 2 of the more obscure games on it that i dont play anyways.

It has a vga connection on it, connection for speaker, jamma and can be powered by a HDD plug molex type (i only learned that last night).

Any chance that we could get a pic of it with a banana for scale? Just wondering how big the unit is physically.

I'd be tempted to build a 60 in 1 cab for sale at a later date with jamma loom in it with one of these boards just... as a hobby.

haha they are only small, roughly the size of a dvd box.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,729 ✭✭✭The Last Bandit

They are fairly small, will fit in a space 140mm x 140mm.

And you can pick them up cheaper than that, the last lot I bought worked out at less than €40 each.

One annoying feature is the sound is not equalised across the games so some tend to be louder that others, not a big deal if you are configuring it for a single game only. This is the main reason I added an external volume pot on my bartops.

You should probably use a shifted key in order to increase or decrease the volume on the cab.

    yep
I used to have shift + up and down on the joystick set up for volume.

Ah ye guys are talking about PC based cabs :)

This a old style Jamma board with limited controls, the only way to adjust the volume is thru the configuration menu or the on-board pot (which I move off board for easy access)

I know that but surely you can rewire the pot and connect +/- to a pin on the jamma board for an input? That way you may be able to just press a button for volume up / down.

If you're going to the hassle of doing that though I suppose you're better off just extending the pot.

Never mind forget I suggested anything. *puts head back into sand*

If you have a Jamma cab and like the oldies these cheap little 60 in 1 boards are pretty much a must for the price .
The sound on a couple of games is indeed horrible, try Scramble and every explosion sounds like you blown up your speakers .

Thing is that I have 8 way joysticks ( Seimitsu LS-56) that suck for 4 way games like Pacman or Donkey Kong, I have bought an E-Limitator but yet have to install it, that should take care of it though .
