Quinny had an interesting read on the Lions, basically saying most fans are only there for the beer and a party.

That's why people have always followed the Lions since travel has made it possible. Winning is a great bonus but it's not like they're anyone's number one side.

What was his point? Is that any different from, well, forever? I was there in 2001, for the ultimate beering and partying, with brilliant sport thrown in. Couple of the best weeks of my life!

Meh he's kinda right. I was there four years ago for SA and while people are there for the rugby initially a loss doesn't effect people to the point of drowning sorrows say like losing a Grand Slam. Everyone realizes these things don't come around often so just enjoy it with fans from 4 different countries. There's no point being miserable when you've spent that much money. No one goes looking for the party atmosphere but it just develops.

i was a big fan of Quinny as a player, but I don't rate him as a pundit. I don't really know what his point was, something as follows: the teams loses, no one really cares, they are all going on the booze anyway, whereas if your team lost a W cup match, people would be pissed off.

People save hard in difficult financial times to go to these places to support the Lions. it's a holiday as well as being there for the sport. Plus there are tons of Irish, English etc living in OZ and for them it's a great excuse for a deadly night out.

Soccer fans gets accused of this all the time. Plastic fans going to Poland for the piss-up. Good luck to them i say, have a great time , take in the game and enjoy the piss-up!!

I think you were on the best tour adventure wise, after spending like the best of 7 grand you wouldnt be able to not have a good time

That's an interesting take on it, but you are spot on, enjoy yourself when you go to a game.

Yeah it was a nothing article just about him and his Munster friends playing a "legends" match. He was basically telling everyone what a great time he was having in Oz.

I haven't seen the game back but I thought tactical kicking was one of the better parts of the Lions performance. It was generally pinpoint accurate and Oz didn't handle it particularly well, the main issue that it seemed to be the only way we could gain territory

Thinking about it now how on earth were we leading with 5 mins to go? We offered nothing in attack, had a mediocre set-piece and Aussies were just as accurate with the boot as we were. Again without analysing it I'd say our tactical kicking was a big part in that.

The kicking was accurate, and the Aussies did struggle at times...but all the kicks were pretty much in the middle third of the pitch. Nothing remotely near the goal-line from memory. It somewhat pressurised the Aussies, but it's not a reliable way of scoring points, particularly now that the emphasis is on the tackler first clearly releasing the tackled player. SA did win RWC 2007 off identical tactics though.

I think if they find him guilty it's probably worse. It looks bad because they didn't like the result the first officer gave them, it smacks of external pressure being brought to bear. And I cannot see the Aussies accepting it, they will appeal straight away, they have to imo

I don't think Horwill has the right of appeal. He won't be found guilty of foul-play, but reckless IMO. Enough for a 1 week ban. If he's exceptionally lucky, his previous exemplary record will count.

Imagine if Healy had been cleared earlier in the year, and 2 days later the IRB appeal the decision. Would have been carnage on this forum.

The other annoyance is that it's detracting from what should be the focus on the deciding 3rd test. And I reckon the Lions will come to regret it - the WBs are much more likely to win for their popular captain Horwill than for their somewhat-maligned Kiwi coach Deans.

Big difference though, in that the BOKs had a pack that was able to bully opponents about. Achieving parity up front is the best lions can hope for.

Old interpretation of laws + Fourie du Preez + Habana + Percy's boot. Anti-rugby. But the trophy was in the cabinet.

Would Quinny ever shut the **** up... heaven forbid people enjoy themselves. Rugby is entertainment

They were 9/1 at the start of that tournament, can remember betting on them. As soon as the ABs were out, they had it.

I don't bet, what's this aftertiming carry on? You can't talk about winning a bet unless you mention it before the game or some such? I don't get it.

Ah I was only joking there, but on the Gambling Forum its a big no-no.

Basically the forum would go to sh*t if you were allowed come on after something had happened and claim you had the house on it, unless you've a screenshot to prove it!

I know you were, but I don't think it's such a big deal on the GAA betting forum, never went onto the soccer one to see if it is there.

Its an automatic 1 week ban unless you can provide a screenshot AFAIK

Finally! After 339 attempts. If at first you fail, try again.

Part of the issue with aftertiming is that if its a betting thread you'd like to get an idea of which posters are good at it and whose judgement to trust. If people come on and simply mention their winning bets but not their losing ones you have no idea how successful they are.

    Though personally I don't care.

I would be worried for the back line defensively without BOD tbh.

I was at the 01 tour. Mighty craic was had. Plenty of boozing done the entire time. Good times.
