What's with the size of the feckers these days? Was on Moore Street the other day and I swear to jaysus, some of them looked the size of turkeys!

And no fear on the feckers either - twould walk straight up to ya without a care in the world. Seeing the same impertinence with Pigeons these days too! Back in the day, birds knew their place in the world and kept a good distance from people!

They're growing to fill the evolutionary niche left by the Polish eating all the swans.

It's only a matter of time for this to happen then.

That is EXACTLY the sort of cheekiness we can expect as long as we refuse to put the Seagulls in their place! :pac:

When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea

Yes, some of the seagulls in Dublin are fecking massive. Wouldn't like to be eating near them!

In the bird world, females are actually up to third larger than the males, go astound your friends with that knowledge

Swans are pompous pricks. Even seagulls don't want to be near them.

I think they should be the national bird

There are over ten different species of gulls in Ireland, lots of which look very similar but vary a lot in size, feather / bill colour and behaviour.

Some gulls of the same species will naturally be larger in the summer because they were born in early spring and have been growing ever since.

So if you think gulls are getting bigger it's likely that you're confusing one species for another, or you're looking at individuals of the same species over the space of a few months.

It's not thanks to the EU (!), nor is it because of warmer weather (barring the odd migratory species) or male / female size differences.

Seagulls pooping at you, that is frightening, though not particularly unusual, although doing so from behind a bin indicates that they are developing certain ballistic capabilities hitherto unavailable to normal birds, who usually just poop randomly downwards on you.Can you give us an idea of the muzzle velocity of the poop which came at you from behind the bin, or were you too traumatised to take technical notes ?

Used to be loads of them about here (on the coast) but the numbers seem to be falling every year. Think they've all moved to the cities/rubbish dumps.

How to survive a seagull attack

The Royal Mail has halted deliveries on one Cornish street because of gull attacks on postmen. But with the birds thriving in urban areas, we can only expect more such stories involving these heavily armed birds
