Presumably your tv doesn't have a media player, or you don't have something like say, a Saorview box?

Hi,thanks for posting.no,I have a upc cable box and the t.v is about 7 years old its hd ready, can't see any usb ports on though.I know I could get a separate media player but the dvd player is on its last legs anyway,so if I got one of the new blue ray ones could I run the external hard drive through it?

Yeah, reckoned you knew you didn't have anything that would work, was just your thread title & all . . .

Plenty of players will allow usb playback. Don't really know enough about what's available to recommend anything in particular myself. If you have something in mind, post the make & model or a link & we can take a look at the specs.
