Mid 2007 iMac - Upgrade options ?

    Looking to upgrade the ram to 8GB if possible. Currently has 4 in there.

    According to the crucial scanner:

    DDR2 PC2-5300
    Memory Type: DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non-ECC)
    Maximum Memory: 4GB
    Currently Installed Memory: 4GB
    Total Memory Slots: 2
    Available Memory Slots: 0
    2GB
    DDR2 SDRAM
    2GB
    DDR2 SDRAM



    The SSD is fully funtional in the system, but we do not offer a mounting solution at this time. An alternate mounting solution will need to be used.

    Afaik the Santa Rosa chipset in your Mac will only accept 6GB. So you'll need 4GB + one of your existing 2GB to max out the RAM. Crucial don't seem to sell compatible 4GB chips so you'll have to get one elsewhere. I've never really bought from anyone but Crucial so I don't know who to suggest.

    Would be a 50% increase, better than nothing I suppose. Do I just pick up a 4GB stick somewhere & put it in any slot or do I need to look out for anything ?

    Memoryc.ie have a 4GB module that should work.

    Just noticed that says for laptops on it's description. This is for my imac desktop. Still ok ?

    Your iMac takes SO-DIMMs which is what laptops use hence the term laptop memory. As far as you're concerned they're the same thing. Most if not all the iMacs take SO-DIMMs.
