Im new to boards.ie so this may not be the right category but I wanted to know is there any way I can track a mobile number from an unregistered mobile phone? I have been receiving messages for months but the person wont tell me who he is. The messages are disgusting and this person knows everything about me but so far I have been unable to find out who he is. Some messages are very disturbing and it has gone on far too long. Has anyone else ever had this problem and if so how was it sorted?
    Help would be appreaciated!

Report it to the police. They can follow up with the phone company. Nothing you can do on your own.

    Here's what you report.

When you 'block' your Caller ID, all you're actually doing is setting a flag that tells the network not to display your number. However, the various switching systems along the route know exactly what your number is.
With a court warrant, the Gardaí can just ask the phone companies to check who called at whatever time and your harasser's phone number is revealed.

There's absolutely nothing you can do without getting the Gardaí involved though.

You should keep times and dates of all calls, and do not delete any abusive voicemails as they could be used as evidence.

sorry for popping up with my own question here but may be relevant here
what do you do when you get a blank calls from private numbers. dont know if they have a private number or using some applications to call using internet? I faced that, went to Garda but they said they cant do anything to track them, may be ask your service provider, went to them but they said that they cant track a private number, you may go to Garda for it.

Private / Withheld = someone is choosing to withhold the number using the 141 prefix or they've their number hidden.

if the phone say "Unavailable" or your mobile just displays "Call" then it's genuinely missing any Caller ID information.

It can happen with some calls from abroad or from some office phone systems or VoIP systems that aren't programmed with a Caller ID number.

Some are difficult / nearly impossible to trace.

you could also be called from an unregistered prepay phone or even a payphone and you wouldn't necessarily be able to do anything to trace it either.

Keep logs though of times and dates.

if the content is threatening, the Gardai should follow it up.

your phone Company can't trace it without the Gardai being involved. They're generally not allowed to access that kind of data without a court order or warrant.

Actually when I went to Garda they said the same thing, I did keep the logs showing that even though they were blank calls they were so frequent and intimidating.
I still have them but apart from having them, they are of no use really.

Unfortunately, you can't really do much more than that.

The telephone networks aren't as easy to trace traffic through as they used to be.

Your phone Co will change your number though if that helps.

if you've any serious threats to your personal safety though ring the Gardai immediately. that's beyond just prank calls
