Why is everyone down on Bono?I've heard derogotory comments about being "short and fat"the usual tax thing and numerous others. Is it envy or jealousy that gets on people's goats?I'd say he's not a bad fella sure.

Sometimes you just dont like someone. I hate the dismissal of that dislike as "jealousy", it's lazy in the extreme.

He just seems like a bit of a pompous **** tbh.

He's a hypocrite who bangs on about helping the poor and he wont even pay tax in his own country where people sleep on trolleys in hospitals. How could you possibly need the amount of money he has? Don't get me started on Bob Geldof...

He is the world's largest poo.

I don't mind the man, but dont really understand why he was the centre of attention and designated Irish ambassador today.

What's the difference between God and Bono?....

....God doesn't walk around the streets of Dalkey thinking he is Bono :):D

He does/did a lot to put this tiny island on the map

I think that's a bit harsh tbh. He works tirelessly to improve the lives of countless people... even if he looks like an ostentatious prick in doing so. Maybe he has some ulterior motives, but his humanitarian efforts aren't eclipsed by them.

You don't get crowned the 'most politically effective celebrity of all time' by just pretending to care.

I think you're confusing him with Ordnance Survey Ireland

I don't like U2's music but I actually have nothing against the man or it's members. I do have great respect for their music and how far they've gone from this tiny little island.

And all the tax dodging ****e, it's amazing how the same hypocrites who say he's an asshole for not paying tax in Ireland defend MNCs based in Ireland to avoid paying taxes elsewhere. I defend too them but I don't turn around and demand that all Irish celebs to pay taxes here.

He has helped people who have to live through a lot more than sleeping on trolleys. First world problems....

It's the celebs who harp on about justice and inequality in the world and don't pay tax in their own country that irk me

It could be your own first world problem some day if you or a relative dies in those conditions!

he could have done that in a swanky Stephen's green restaurant, instead he invited her to his local and gave the kids of Dalkey the chance to see the FLOTUS.

    Fair play to him.

As if you'd ever say no to that, right? I'd say you'd be tripping over yourself to pay more taxes if you were a multimillionaire. ;)

I dont see why world leaders go out of their way to meet him hes not an elected politician but you would be forgiven for thinking he was the President of Ireland.

I am a U2 fan and am inspired of how they took on the world...

    But

I do hate this **** where there is a world leader or person of great importance vistiting Dublin.... Bono HAS to meet them up or invite them to dinner....

He did it with Bill Gates and invited Tony Blair to stay in his for the weekend!

    Thats politics today.
    Shallow, opportunistic, populist, banal nonsense.
Tweets, and turning up at the G8 without a tie trying to look hip and realising all the other World leaders just did the same.

They continue to pay tax in Ireland on monies accrued from touring and merchandising, which possibly constitutes the majority of their earnings nowadays.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the business U2 moved to the Netherlands may pertain to their publishing rights alone.

I think Bono does pay tax here it's "U2 Inc"that pays in the Netherlands or where ever.

I have no problem with Bono.

I would like to know which U2 member experienced massive head trauma circa 1997. The music took some unreal nosedive.

Bono doesn't provide thousands of jobs and keep the countries economy going though.
