I passed three of the mocks, got 45% in sfma. Couldn't believe i passed FR considering all i did on the consolidated question was the adjustments for calculating goodwill and retained earnings. New structure seems to make FR an awful lot easier.

That’s pretty remarkable that 2 months before the exams you are able to pass three and narrowly fail the other well done!!! I passed Audit and failed the other 3. I only really had time to focus on one question for each exam so wasn’t expecting to score highly in them obv having the audit assessment a few weeks before the mock helped me through it. Thinking the key for me is to do plenty of past papers and to read the examiners reports. I’ve never paid too much attention to the examiners reports before but I’m realising now that my exam technique and in particular my presentation is letting me down. Is many people still attending class? I ‘m finding it more worthwhile at the moment to be at home doing my own work.

Another 6.45 here. Came as some shock as well. I was expecting over 10 considering how I thought it went on the day. As above will be very interested to see the solution. Passed the mock too!

I'm repeating SFMA exam this year and have heard that the notes have been completely renewed for 2013. Could anyone be so nice and PM me the file of notes to help me pass???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 105 ✭✭cian twomey

Would anyone have a link for a good published set of financial statements with disclosure notes as it looks like these are going to be worth a few marks in the FR reporting exams, it would be good to have something to help with the wording etc, any help would be appreciated

Anyone any tips on how to approach sfma

Its a tough one theres so much in it, my plan is to study the sections in man acc and finance separtely and then hit the exam papers i find the finance lecturer online tom McStraw very good for areas you are having trouble with, anyone got any good tips on audit, it seems to me that the only way to go is go through the exam papers as the questions seemed to be tailored to them

Hi, Im looking for a bit of advice on a study plan... To date ive covered:

    Audit- should be finished tomarrow
FR- material cover but need to spend some time on papers
Tax- just corporation tax to do
    SFMA- nothing done atal

Do people recommend finishing tax then moving onto SFMA or doing SFMA first then finish tax as i have half covered already????

    Any advice would be helpful

I'd recommend getting straight into SFMA as it's a pretty broad and time consuming subject and maybe leaving tax for the last week or so because it's the closed book exam!

Can anyone shed any light on SFMA autumn 2010 Q3 part c)ii). I can't follow the solution regarding the option for factoring the debt. Specifically where the 25:75% came from and why the factor interest is 0.058% instead of 6%.

Panic is setting in now, not feeling prepared at all....

    Hi Littlemiss,

I noticed the same when I was doing them yesterday, the solutions for that exam paper in particular appear to be all over the place like requirements are mixed up etc. Did you notice that? So I email the insitute to see if they had the correct solution, no response as of yet. I wasted a lot of time on it yesterday on it too :(

Ya like the solutions were all mixed up, very confused and there is no explanation where figures came from!

I found for part a of the same question you had to prove out where the €5 skilled labour hour came from, but the solution actually gives an answer of €4.75 which made no sense?

Very frustrating when you spend an hour trying to figure something out and the solution is wrong!

    Least I'm not alone!!

I'm doing the notes then doing all the questions at the end of the notes because they're all exam paper questions.

    It is very very annoying!

I'm basically doing it the same way, have the notes read and tabbed etc now doing all the questions at the end of them.

Are use writing out notes or just highlighting as u read them?

I used the finance lecture notes as a base and then I added to them as I did question and book chapters, at this stage there isn't much time to be rewriting stuff and those notes are well writen. I know the noted for management aren't as detailed but I did the same thing and found the only area I really had to write stuff out was variances because everybody does them slightly different.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but can anyone say how much you need to actually know for these exams? I mean, aside from tax, we will have the material in there with us. Are we better off being able to locate answers quickly? Is familiarity with the material enough?

I wasn't able to sit the mocks (I was abroad at the time) so I'm not really sure about timing, but surely if you spent time putting together notes and examples in easy to follow form, you'd be as well off as trying to learn such a vast amount of material?

Feel free to put me right on this. Personally, I have yet to cover most of SFMA so I'm wondering if a good general knowledge is enough.
