Tripod Help

    Hi

    I need to buy a new tripod soon(Preferably This weekend) and I am a bit stuck.

    I have had 2 Hama Traveller Compact pros(Which broke) (£35 on Amazon) and they are pretty Sh*te . Legs are very bendy !!!

    I am on a budget of around €50-55

    I need one that can hold up to 3.5kg (I will(sometimes) be putting a 1D mkii with a 70-200 on this )

    I need one that can point directly vertical and also would prefer one with legs that can fold outwards .

    Also would prefer one with a handle for stable tracking

    I have seen this and It seems to be what I'm looking for
    Any suggestions welcome :)

    If you're putting a 1D on there, I'd invest a little more in the legs. Scour the adverts.ie type sites for a second hand manfrotto or slik set of legs, though you may not have time for that if you need it this weekend! Maybe get a borrow for the weekend then invest after?

    Well I don't necessarily need for this weekend but would like As soon as because I do Star timelapses and with the recent good weather I would like to get some nice footage :)

    BTW I mostly do not have the legs fully extended . I usually shoot at lowest leg height .

    I only use full height shooting airplanes(not very often ) .A little bit of flimsy is fine :p . The Hama I had was good except for the legs.

    I use my 70-200 shooting airplanes and for day to day shooting .
    Night time it's 1D and 17-35 F/2.8 L

    My advice to you is invest in a very good quality tripod and head that will last you a lifetime. Go for a giottos, manfrotto or slik priced at approx 200 euro.
    You won't have to buy another and your equipment will also be safer mounted on such a tripod. You really have learned your lesson re your 2 previous tripods, you are 70 euro down and no tripod!

    Actually I got a refund for both the tripods that I did have so I still have that cash .

    €200 is a lot to invest and it's money I don't have unfortunately .

    The weight of the 1D and 17-35 alone means you'll have to get a fairly solid tripod. Remember making that mistake after an 8 hour shoot in the Arizona desert. The noise on the star trails basically meant my 8 hours were wasted. Think i was using a 60d and 10-22mm at the time, both far lighter than your equipment.

    Suggest getting the lend of a tripod and saving. As has already been stated a good tripod by the listed companies (I'd add vanguard if you can stretch a carbon fiber one to that list) it will do you for life!
