A nation of "west Brits"?

    Okay maybe its a quiet news day but is anyone else struck how news that the non Irish manager of a football team in a country not Ireland has dominated the Irish media (all types) chatter this morning and lunchtime? About 15 minutes of the RTE radio 1 news is being spent on this fairly minor matter. Apparently callers to Joe Duffy will be sharing memories of Sir Alex Ferguson and his part in their lives from 1.45. The Irish papers will be all over this tomorrow and not just on the back pages..

    Soccer is an international sport and Alex Ferguson is a bit of a legend in the sport so it's a big enough news story.

    Over all we've little in common with the Brits. We'd be better off if we were a bit more like them.

    So you only want Irish news and events in the papers on the Radio and Tv is that it? No world events to be reported on.....?

    Meh, can people not like what they like without being called names. I don't like it myself I find it boring but if you are into football you are likely to like one of the best teams in the world which are not very far from you. I don't think that makes you a west brit. I think west brit is a bit of a silly name anyway.

    I'm not a big soccer supporter, but the man is a legend. I can't think of another manager in any sport in the world that has had the prolonged success that he has at Manchester United.

    Driving into work this morning (in Chicago), this was the second news story on the local sports radio channel (after the Blackhawks winning -Game four of the NHL playoffs last night.)
