I remember that, hope he had a good time with it :D

I'm sure he knows this, but he can NCT the car early in a fortnight. It will help his sale no end if it is NCTd till Aug '14! :)

He did indeed. Its his beloved weekend toy. He's mad for an XJR but this was the closest he could get for now! :P I never thought of the early NCT. I'm sure he didn't either. I'll say it to him when I see him. Cheers

I'm not really sure what the concensus / rule is here. Sure the limit is €2,000, but is that the asking price or what it will likely / realistically sell for?

If the latter, then I reckon that Peugeot will sell for below €2k, so it deserves to be here :)

True, the ad does state "open to reasonable offers" so if 2k or maybe a bit less is offered then accepted the car fits the criteria for this thread.

Test until next year, a small bit over budget but looks like a very clean and well maintained jeep :)

Them Isuzu Troopers are a fine jeep, my father has a 1998 3.1 TD, it's very close to 400k miles and still going like a clock. But it's worth noting that the 3.0 engine were muck up until 2000, a rack of them been sold for parts. But the one above is 2004, so it should be a good buy. :)

Asking €800, 7 months NCT, 126k miles, claimed recent service............

6 months tax with this one, NCT until 2014, 130k miles...also asking €800

    View2-19236729.jpeg

Asking €825... overpriced imo in comparison to the other two

Just to add, these civics are a decent car in their own right but in comparison to a 95 Corolla their pure savage yokes.

I recall talking to a guy once who seemed to be well in the know. According to him the 3.0 engines in the Troopers were also a nightmare to work on. So much so that many mechanics wont even touch them. A different kettle of fish entirely to the 3.1 which is a gem by comparison. Then again I dont want to go starting a viscious rumor....It could have being idle pub talk for all I know....

Think the last plug is under the bulkhead or something, makes them near impossible to change, for one that I've heard, should qualify; I had a 3.0 turbo Trooper for over 300K miles without any serious problem so they are genuinely ok in my book anyway.

Probably lots of miles on the clock but 2001, diesel, auto, leather, NCT for a year, just tested asking €1250, a lot of car for the money imo :)

You want rid of your straight six BMW (E34 or E39?) in order to buy a first gen Saab 9-3? That's intriguing :D

    May I ask why? :)

You are indeed correct. :) You see the pre 2000 3.0 trooper (but every year of the 3.0 is a pain in the ass to work on.) are very prone to Head gasket failure, throttle sensors, failing injector seals, injectors and turbo seals and because the injectors are buried deep inside the head, under the camshafts they are a cnut to get at. But as for the 3.1, the alternator is kinda tricky to get at, if you don't have a pit in your garage. But apart from that they are a gem, goes anywhere and great for pulling trailers etc Bomb Proof is an understatement. Apart from services and tyres, nothing else needed. Also dad had the DOE recently for his and passed first time. :)

**Warning** I may be a Isuzu fan boy. :o

Just the diesel engine and numerous insignificant parts that don't help the overall build quality / reliability of the 75. The autobox is Japanese.

The way folk harp on about those diesel's in the ad's as well. The BMW engine must be the best thing about them! :D

    It is ;)

That said, the 75, particularly the diesel auto is a very good ownership proposition given what they are worth. A very comfortable car it is too, especially on boggo 15" wheels

No mention of it in that add.

I do like the way some posters pick up phrases etc from other posters on here, quite flattering it is I imagine.

On the lookout for a first car for the gf with only a bangernomics budget. Needs to be 1.2 L or so for insurance but otherwise anything considered really bar a micra or a Ka and needs to be in Dublin. So if anyone sees anything, throw it up!

Yea its not the worst engine, but it still has its problems .A friend of mine has one and it is manual .New flywheel, slave cylinder and clutch 900 quid.So maybe the auto might be ok.I would still pick an avensis over it,but thats me.

Slave cylinder design is a joke on them.
Fair bit of labour too as lots of bits in the way.

That price isn't unusual on a diesel though, par for the course with anything DMF equipped.

Yeah lots of problems with DMF on many / most relatively modern manual diesels. Neighbour paid the guts of 3 grand for his Hyundai (3 years old, just outside warranty)

As you say, auto is better :)

Lads, ye'll never agree so please agree to disagree!!!!!!!

The extreme biased fanbois are in need of a wake up call, that there are people with taste, live for a bit of excitement. And they must be frothing at the mouth that there are posters that dare stand up to them, be the black sheep and call corollas of that era to be as exciting as watching paint dry. FACT ;)

    NCT till June 14, 1999

    Taxed till November, 1.3 Kent

Wow, I didn't realise that model still used the Kent engine!!!

Lots of folk object on here, but that old engine is quite suitable for a low mileage shopping / church / school run car

No maintenance, no belt, no worry engine par excellence for an A-B shopping trolley car :D

A good friend of mine bought one last year (after asking me for advice on what to buy.... Yeah ) and loves it. His one is 5 doors, first insurance and first car so he done very well, also 03, got it for 2 grand, absolute steal

Was quite surprised at how quiet the engine is, a far cry from the skeleton in a biscuit tin sound you'd get in earlier Kents!

Not to derail the thread or that but ouch thats bloody nasty:mad:. Just goes to show why going bangernomics is far more attractive a proposition than a more modern white appliance such as the Hyundai. Worst case scenario if something very serious happens you can park it up and move on. Your never going to be out anything near €3k in one go.

I thought the Hyundais had a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty though? They have being plugging it for a few years at this stage.
