RTE are really taking the piss now, They launch RTE Jr (again
) on April 15, it is now on all digital platforms, yet they still show it for 7 hours per day on Rte two. There is no need whatsoever for any of RTE Jr to be broadcast on rte 2 again

Totally agree with you. Rte would have been better putting RTE News now on Satellite.

The future of children’s programming on RTÉ Two has yet to be finalised, but it is likely that the mid-morning shows aimed at the younger RTÉjr audience will lose their place.

“We haven’t fully worked through our schedules yet,” says Killane, but it wouldn’t be “value for money” for the mid-morning schedule on RTÉ Two to overlap with that of RTÉjr, he notes.

They have had many years to work out the schedules. it makes no sence at all to launch RTE junior again yet leaving it on rte two as well

I can't remember where I read the report, but apparently the story is that RTÉ must apply to the Minister for approval for the proposed changes to RTÉ Two's schedule. TV3, of course are objecting again.

Haven't ever come across the requirement for RTÉ to seek permission to change channel schedules. However there is a requirement in the Broadcasting Act that requires RTÉ and TG4, as PSBs, to request Ministerial/Departmental approval for new channels or services. In any case the schedule changes to RTÉ2 and RTÉjr were part of the Nov 2010 consultation.
Section 103 of the Broadcasting Act 2009 provides the Minister for Communications,
Energy and Natural Resources with responsibility to consider requests by RTÉ for
new channels and services and to make a determination on whether to consent to these
channels or services. This requirement is in line with the 2009 European Commission
    Communication on Public Service Broadcasting.

I think the delayed new RTÉ2 schedule has more to do with the state of RTÉ's finances.

They are waiting for the "new" Dallas episodes from Channel 5 or More 4 and the likes in order to put them on during the day on RTE 2 before they shift the chislers channel !

Apparently yes. We don't drag up old threads though.
