The "seizure" of Waterford airport was an exercise. It's up on youTube somewhere, I saw it a day or two ago. I just can't find it at the moment, so no link, sorry.

The scenario was that they had to secure the airport in order to allow follow-on forces to land. It was a serious exercise and they usually don't want people getting in the way in case they get injured.

You might just have got someone with a short fuse or very little sleep. There's a time & place to be ignorant, of course, but PDF & RDF personnel are usually very polite when interacting with the public.

I'd be more worried about the hydric acid, a rocket fuel bi-product commonly found in excised tumours.

This is not how you play, don't want a discussion of the rule, but this takes the piss if you don't even aim.

See here for a flickr set from the recent Exercise Capstone in Waterford Airport. http://www.flickr.com/photos/dfmagazine/sets/72157633277233523/ .

In the scenario, similar to real life operations that have taken place in Liberia and Kosovo, 20 recently commissioned officers and 39 Two Star Privates had to take control of Waterford airport using 15 Mowag APC's and conventional Infantry Weapons, and secure it for the safe passage of a VIP. The peace support scenario and the threat assessment led to the tactical deployment pictured which included dismounted infantry on an inner cordon and an armoured outer cordon including recce and air defence elements.

Flikr, not YouTube, sorry. Knew I'd seen it somewhere.

PS: It's also been picked up by Militaryphotos.net. Gone global.

Abergele's on my To-Visit list. Whydave, take note.

Post is in the wrong thread, though. Dangerously on-topic. :)
