077 is at the engine shed in Inchicore showing off her new paintjob.085 is at Inchicore also

085 is confined to Inchicore works (for some technical issue) and for that reason it acts as the works pilot shunter. I think it's been confined to Inchicore for over a year now if not more.

Can't wait to see the slates in service.

077 was still there early today with 234 blocking her from full view.I think i saw 084 beside the shed also but i could have been mistaken

If true, I suppose it makes sense. Either 071 or 077 or maybe even both look like they are close to returning to service so now would be the time to take 084 in.

Those shots of her on the Limerick wagon run a few weeks back could well be the last photos of her in orange.

074 was in Tullamore yesterday, was hooked up to the autoballasters on the track behind the platform.

It's what we have been waiting for weeks on end. Repainted 077 has been let loose on the network. The loco was trialled at lunchtime today from Inchicore to Sallins and as the trial was successful she was soon pressed into service with a wagon transfer to North Wall. Sometimes you can't get them all so a massive thanks to GM233 and Mr. Church for allowing me to share their photos of the loco trial and wagon transfer to North Wall.

All the photos can be viewed at http://smu.gs/14YbpEt

    Enjoy,
    The Wanderer.

The livery reminds me of the NIR livery on the 111s, probably because of the design of the yellow fronts. I still don't like the new Irish Rail logo though.

I don't like the bloody UIC numbers, imagine the fun when 071 gets out there in a few weeks and 078 after. We won't be able to tell them apart unless you are standing beside a slow moving one.

There's one 071 you will be able to spot blindfolded when it eventually gets its paint job. :D

Looking at the photo of 077 beside 072 made me cop on to something. 077 no longer has the square plate underneath the side cab windows where the tablet catchers used to be. Have the 071s received body overhauls before now?

    Evening all,

Just one interesting picture for this evening: 077 in its new Slate Grey livery passing Clontarf Road on the early 1915 Alexandra Road - Tara Mines service.

The remaining pictures from today will be uploaded over the course of the weekend.

Afaik 077 got a full body overhaul which would explain the removal of the tablet catchers

you know, apart from the number and stupid logo I actually prefer the grey when side by side, much neater and less cluttered.

I love this shot.Probably my favourite picture so far featuring the new livery

I will never stop loving the black and silver freight livery though

Copyrighted surely? As it says in the picture? Which would therefore forbid it being posted online here unless you got permission from the photographer in question?

Looks like the little rail that sat below the headlight has been removed too.

Not mad about the livery tbh, much prefer the railfreight livery. Maybe seeing it in the flesh will change my mind but i'm not betting on it.

no, the copywrite is still on it and it's just a link to the original pic, not a copy.

Are the CPWs in Waterford because it could have worked the Ballina to Waterford DFDS yesterday?

The CPW's are due to operate to Waterford on Tuesdays and back Thursdays. The set in Waterfrod look to of come from the port to the yard emopty and stationed there now.

If they had ran yesterday there is no way they would of being unloaded and the CPW's sent to the yard within 40 mins of arriving and they normaly stay in the port until they are reloaded.

EDIT - Weather conditions at sea have caused delays

Yeah the grab irons have been removed, and the one behind the vac pipe.

The entire cabs have been rebuilt too, so the noise and weather proofing is much better for the crews. The 071s were getting very cold and drafty during the winter months.

With all the work they are investing in the 071s you can count on them being around for while yet.

Just reading a post on IRN. Looks like they there getting most out of 077. When it finish up on the taras last night it coupled up to a rake of autoballasters in North Wall yard for Dundalk departing at 23:00. It then worked from Dundlak to Platin where it stabled in the very early hours.

Don't know if this is the first reported working of the autoballasters on the Northern Line. I know some ended up in Connolly yard shortly after being delivered but I don't know if they ever headed on a PWD possession on the main line itself.

079 hauls a dead 073 & it's ballast train away from Ballybrophy to Lisduff on 12-March-2012.

Do drivers seem generally interested in what they do or is it just "a job"

Any i've spoken have been happy to discuss the job and he was happy enough to talk to me but had a dislike for the 071's too many problems break downs and not as comfortable as the ICRs. Any time I've spoken to a driver they've always seemed happy enough!

with IEs record of pre-scrapping / pre-closing investment I wouldn't count my chickens just yet.
