What would put you off an advert?

Besides the obvious like "mint", "welded diff" etc!

Personally, looking at some ads would have an agressive tone; capitols stating "NO MORE TIMEWASTERS" etc., which would put me off. Also, "relisted due to timewaster" It wasn't relisted due to a timewaster, it was relisted because you didn't sell it:confused: Is someone who comes to look at it but decides not to buy an automatic timewaster?!

I was renewing an ad and decided to change the wording but despite the countless time-wasters (and there is no other word for them!) I didn't want to put the phrase in the ad - it won't stop them ringing anyway!

I'm starting to ramble now, so back to the original question - what phrases/wording would put you off an ad for a car?

I don't get this either, that's just another way of saying it's covered in parking dents!

No indication of mileage, and the "nct's out since june but won't take much to pass"

In my experience, that means the axles are about to fall apart

'remapped' 'some yolk to go' 'slammed' and this..... 'l@@K' ....wtf!

so much! poor photos, poor spelling, no name on advert i.e "call seller", poor description, , this will sound ridiculous, but people selling higher end cars, when I see an 085 number... I far prefer also buying from an Irish person, sick of hearing the "selling for a mother, brother, uncle" bla bla bla. DL reg in particular.

    +1

The pre-emptive strike appears counter-productive to me, as I'd imagine crazies, chatties and the lonely won't be deterred.

They may even view it as a challenge.
AS THIS AD IS STILL ON DD, ITS STILL FOR SALE.

NO OFFERS, PRICE IS FIRM AT €750, NO OFFERS, NO TEXTS (they will be deleted), NO PRIVATE NO'S/BLOCKED NO'S (they'll go unanswered) NO CLOWNS.

READ FULL AD BEFORE CALLING. THANKS

And below it Ad is 135 days old :D

    Blocked reg's
**** pics or an obvious lack of pics of one side of a car....
    Poorly worded.
Loads of nonsense like Airbags (driver and passenger) Eelctric windows (front and back)

It's the tone that'd put me off tbh ba, not the content.

    Photos taken at night

    Photos with people in them

Photos taken 20 feet away from the car

Photos of the interior taken in bright sunshine so you can't see anything behind the glare

    Photos out of focus

Photos taken in landscape mode and posted in portrait mode with the car at 90 degrees, example: http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4821554

Photos of the car taken in portrait mode so lots of sky/backkground and only partial shots of the car, example: http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4821494

"NO TIMEWASTERS". So I take a day off work, lose that days pay, travel a considerable distance, pay for diesel and food, get to your car which you described as "mint" only to find its a ball of sh1te, and I'M the timewaster?

As a rule, I don't even bother with ads when I see that. Either you're interested in finding a buyer for your car, or you're not. Despite the fact that you think your car is as precious as one of your children, its not. Get over it.

I know this has come up before but when someone says no texts that generally puts me off an ad. I usually text first to find out few things then ring

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,968 ✭✭✭blindside88

    So many things to list:

Titles like L@@k integra civic Bentley s2000 Lamborghini spaceship

Pictures taken with car in water

Will pass any test (except for NCT obviously or you would have tested it)

Anyone that likes a good laugh at these kind of ads should look at Dung Deal on Facebook, it's a collection of bad car ads

Genuine reason for sale moving abroad. Will swap car for a passat 1.9tdi.
Like wtf. Are you leaving the country or not. Also this read the ad before you call anyone that puts that down tends to be a thick idiot. When I sell my car I don't care what people want to ask about it as long as its a relevant question about the car.

Also, "relisted due to timewaster" It wasn't relisted due to a timewaster, it was relisted because you didn't sell it:confused: Is someone who comes to look at it but decides not to buy an automatic timewaster?!

I had something like that happening before, went to look at a Micra, arrived inspected it, got the usual bull**** about selling it for his wifes sister bla bla, some of the repaired dents looked like they were done with Dulux paint, needed a new CV joint, took it on test drive, car wouldn't accelerate properly, throttle body was probably fcuked, he denied this.

Walked away from it, went home, went on Donedeal and out of curiosity clicked into the add of the car i viewed and noticed that he had edited in down the bottom,'' NO MORE TIMEWASTERS '' Laughed to myself as I was the one who traveled most of the M50 to view the car :)

Any ad that doesn't list the mileage or has 'Ready for NCT' in it.

One thing that drives me nuts is arseholes that put -

Not pushed on selling (ok so why advertise it???)

If it doesn't sell by weekend I'm keeping it (Do they think that's going to make someone rush out to buy it??)

Price reduced until Monday. If its not sold by then price goes back up (yeah because raising the price will definitely help it sell!)

Well minded. (Which simply means it was washed every so often)

Lastly I wouldn't even ring about a car in an ad where HDR photos have been used to try and make the car look better no matter how good the car may be in the flesh.

    "No tyre kickers"
That gets right up in my ti.....

I also agree with useless pictures.
My one particular one is the owner not even bothered with pulling the car out of the drive to get a few pictures with him more than 2 foot away from the car.
