    Has anyone here installed Serviio on the 310.
    Was looking around the forums and general consensus was thats its a better option for streaming video. Was only bothered, because my Sony Bravia won't play video files from the nas and this was supposed to be a good workaround.
    I, unfortunately havn't the skills or know how to go about installing it.
    Anyone here been able to?

    You sure its not the tv thats incompatable with the type of file that its being presented with?

    It'll take the same file from Serviio running on my laptop. Having said that, what files would a Sony bravio not take?

    Is it a DLNA Tv?

    Depends on the TV, there should be a list in the manual of what it supports DivX, DivX HD, AVI .. .etc

    But if you are streaming it from the laptop to a DLNA tv then its obvious it works with that TV. So cant see Serviio being an issue on the NAS.

    The point I was trying to make was, that the tv ( which is dlna compliant) can see the files from Serviio on my laptop, but not the same files on my nas without Serviio.
    What I want to know is this, has anyone sucessfully installed Serviio on The Zyxel?

    Have you set your media receiver to Sony Bravia in the Twonky settings? I had trouble with my samsung tv before changing

    The more and more I read this thread, the dumber I feel. How do I go about that?

    I am open for correction but I would say it would need a rebuild of the firmware.

    Have been using showrss with the Zyxel, but it seems to be throwing up errors now as all the showrss feeds are from TPB.

    Anyone else having this issue?

    Would it be because im with eirc0m?

    Have had to search manually elsewhere for my fix of the US Office.

    Is showrss still the only place or is there any others out there?

    Been thinking about this for a while, and sent off a price request to Flubit for 1 of these yesterday.
    They came back at £38.03 / €46.04 delivered to ParcelMotel so now in business.

    Spotted this
    seems like a good price at about €127 delivered via Parcel Motel

    Is it worth it?
    Would really like a plug it in and use it NAS so this seems ideal.

    Ive been using mine for about 6 months now, no issues really, took a 3TB no problem

    I have it about 6 months too and am pretty pleased with it for day to day sharing of files across the house. Not all that happy about it's file transfer rate (10Mb/s) but I belief that across a network this is par for the course on these kinda things and am getting a gigabit switch to see if that will improve things. The only other thing to watch out for is that this thing formats the drive you put into it ... so you need to have a fresh drive or a backup of whatever you want to put on it - and with the aforementioned transfer rate its going to take a night or so to get it loaded up. There is one other slight annoyance ... the fan is a bit on the noisy side. Might be an issue if you need it to be silent but I can live with it where mine is parked.

    Another tip I only discovered recently..

    Was always of the opinion you needed to add torrents via the web interface but simply mapping a file share of "//NSA310/download/torrent" (not in front of it right now but something similar) and dragging and dropping torrent files into it automatically starts it downloading.

    Very handy!

    Move it with a set of homeplugs

    So .. I got a gigabit switch in the post this morning from amazon and having set it up I can report a fourfold increase in file transfer speeds from 10mb/s to 40mb/s. So slow speeds nothing to do with the zyxel unit and more do do with my crappy broadband router.

    Thanks for the tip Basq... must try that out this evening... it does get annoying having to constantly login to add torrents.

    I take it you are using a crappy eircom router like myself? am looking to get a gigabit switch myself to help with the transfer speeds... what particular switch did you go for can i ask?

    Vodafone router with 10/100 Ethernet. I got this from Amazon for £23 - very cheap upgrade (I bought it direct from amazon but I can't seem to find the direct link to their version of the product despite clicking on my order history!)

    Hi Basq,

    Just saw this tip now and seems like the answer to a lot of my prayers! Just wondering, are you referring to the network folder //network/NSA310/Download/Torrent ?
    If so, is it just a matter of dropping a torrent file into this folder? Also, where does the file download to? I have a few separate folders for TV,film,music etc so would this just download to a single folder eg "completed downloads" and I would then have to move the file to the correct folder? Sorry for all the questions :o:o

    Yeah, whatever the default location for torrents is on the NSA310... whenever you add a torrent via the web interface, it goes here until it's completed.

    This is obviously monitored for new torrents and the NSA310 downloads automatically when it detects a new torrent, so you can skip the web interface entirely.

    Exactly.. you just map the share and drop the torrent in there.

    There's a default folder for these files - think it's typically "incoming" on the root of the NSA310. It goes there.. once done, you could move it to the folder you'd typically use though.

    Just tested this now.

    There will be a folder on the NAS called

    \admin\download\torrent

    Just drop or save the .torrent file in there and the NAS will start downloading it automatically to the folder.

    \admin\download

    This download folder can be changed under
    main screen: 'Manage The Device'
    -> 'Applications - Download Service'
    -> Preferences
    -> Edit

    Would be nice to have a filter here so that all AVIs and MP4s go to \Video and all MP3s go to \Music but I don't think that's available.

    Thanks for the quick replies guys. Cant wait to get home and set this up now :)

    P.S.

    Has anyone managed to add torrents when outside the home network i.e. at work/from your smartphone?

    It's definitely a brilliant piece of kit for the money, I would have no problem recommending it to anyone.

    Zyxel seem to have given up on updating the firmware though, nothing new for a good while.

    A few extra things I would love would be an IP Camera/DVR package added to the optional packages list and the existing Polkast package updated so that it allows the addition of other folders on the Zyxel other than the default ones similar to the way it allows you to include extra folders on a pc to the polkast app for example.
