I'm just happy the full yellow face is gone. I'd like if the small red stripe of the current livery was kept and maybe red buffer beams for a bit of contrast.

Well it looks like 071 got repainted as part of it's overhaul. 071, 077 and 078 are in slate grey and have UIC numbers. Good luck for us spotters in ID'ing them.

Reminds me so much of the old NIR blue livery.

apart from the ridiculous numbers I think I like it, back to the simple kettle-esque type livery

It's the third secret of Fatima apparently the new livery of the 071s. The one picture I saw it was taken at close range so maybe an IR employee put up something he shouldn't have ? It's the one thing I can think of.

I would say it is more to do with where they were taken that what was in them.

IE were always strict about photos from Inchicore being leaked online. On the IRRS visits they made you sign a disclaimer which said (among other things) not to publish the photos online.

If anybody fancies some 071/passenger carriages action on Monday then they'd do worse than to toddle over to Connolly early and later on Monday. RPSI have a trip to Wicklow that day and a diesel will more than likely be doing some shunting and other deparmentals.

Could be a 201 doing the shunting depending what's around in Connolly. Last year 215 and 221 did Cravens shunting around Connolly and Grand Canal Dock for the RPSI as there were no 071s around those weekends.

When you say Diesel Shunting & other departmentals - What do you mean? Does the train need to be loaded in the station with stock before departure? Which platform?

Departmental trains are ones which move stock etc from depot to depot. RPSI stock is based in Inchicore and usually moved over to Connolly for it's trains the evening beforehand; however this train tends to be moved whenever a train crew are free for it so it can be moved at any time.

In relation to Monday, shunting and train preparations begin from about 4AM in the morning when the engine's fire is raised for the day. The shunting generally drops the train into platform 1 for loading around about 8:30AM. From there, it is generally taken to the train wash road before the steam engine connects up and brings it into platform 5 where the passengers will board for a 10:30 departure, subject to the Rosslare departure being on time.

In the evening, the train will arrive into Dublin around 16:55 before it will be emptied and 186 detached and taken back to the shed. Once this is done, a diesel will connect up and bring the carriages back to Inchicore; this is done soon after arrival but exact times are hard to pin down.
