Any chance your BIOS gives you the option to switch between SATA(AHCI) mode and IDE mode?

bios does not have this option. i'm wondering if the partition table on the hard drive is damaged. if i put a windows xp disk into the cd drive it will run the setup. However it stops with a 7b error code just before you get the option to go to the recovery console and the option to partition the disk
