Copyrighting songs on YouTube

    Lets say i write a song and stick it on YouTube does anyone know if i can use the upload date as a "copyright" date or do i have to go down the conventional route of posting it to myself etc etc (which i am dubious about anyway) in order to protect the work .
    Technically speaking if the work is ripped off any recordings that may appear would be after my upload and i would still own (and have) the first playing of the song .

    Im not in law but as far as I know the youtube link should be good as proof. Alot more secure than posting it to yourself as I dont think that would stand up in court. Also I would upload it to Soundcloud/Reverbnation etc as the more proof, the better. Basically, it could be argued that you could know someone in An Post who tampered with the date stamp or whatever so I wouldnt trust that whereas if you have it uploaded to several different sites online its pretty unlikely that you could have had someone tamper with the date on all of them.
