    To update you just need a USB stick. Upload file to USB stick and then download file from USB stick to Ariva

    I know that,What I wanted to know is how you update via PC with the serial cable

    I am still on firmware 1.18. I was considering updating so I bought a null modem cable in case I needed it if something went wrong. I have just connected the 250 to my PC with the null modem cable. I started the ariva editor program and tried to upload an abs file to the 250. A box is displayed saying the serial port is being tested and then it says it failed the test. I am doing this with the 250 switched on. any ideas?

    You could use a null modem if you have superimposed the chanel list over the firmware and then use the recovery software and null modem cable to flash the box. But the null modem cable is really only for recovery from bad/incorrect flashing on the USB port.

    If you wish to continue with that way of flashing then follow the instructions. The box is never on when using a null modem cable until the last second when you press next and flick the switch on the back.

    Why dont you use a USb stick ? The null modem cable is really only a recovery tool.

    Sorry if this has been asked and answered already, but have some questions about external hard drive:
    • Does the box send external hard drive to sleep when it is not accessing the drive?
    • Does the box provide enough juice for a USB "self" powered 2.5" drive?

    yes, once timeshift is switched off.
    yes 5v phantom power.

    I want to make sure that the null modem cable will work before I update the firmware via usb in case I need to do a recovery.Can the null modem cable be used with the ariva editor? if so how? thanks

    Its highly unlikely that you will need to do a recovery as long as you upload the correct s/w for the box 99.99% of the time nothing will go wrong.

    I dont know how to use the cable, ive never had too

    Guys,

    How do I use ports 5 and 6 of a 8x1 Diseqc switch on the Ariva 250 please?

    Also a new update has been released:

    http://www.ferguson-digital.eu/en/download/HD-Satellite-Receivers/Ariva-250-Combo/

    Thanks

    Use the cacading option. Rather than Port 1 to 4. From memory

    Guys

    I need help with setting up an 8x1 Diseqc

    My LNBs are going into the following ports on the 8x1 diseqc:

    28 to Port 2
    26 to Port 1
    19 = 7
    16 = 8
    13 = 4
    7 = 5

    In the settings on the STB in Antenna Set-up, Im only able to get a signal for Astra 28 and that is by going to Diseqc 1.1 and setting it to 1Cascade M1:Port 2 but if I try to put Badr 26 at 1CascadeM1:Port 1 I get no signal. Indeed when I try it on any of the other settings I get nothing.

    The settings available are:

    1Cascade M1: Ports 1 -4
    1Cascade M2: Ports 1 -4
    1Cascade M3: Ports 1 -4
    2Cascades: Ports 1 - 16

    I also have Diseqc 1.0 Disabled.

    So can anyone advise please?
    Thanks

    Use the 2cascades option ONLY. And the port numbers that correspond to the LNBs. It should be configured to 1.1 or 1.2 Dqsc

    Can anyone recommend a combo box with a built in HDD from a reputable manufacturer that doesn't have a good chance of failure after 12 months of service?

    Hi Daarragh, I'd suggest starting a new thread for your query as this thread is just for the Ariva 250.

    Just updated the firmware on my 250 to 1:22 and all the internet options are gone, "network not available". This seems to happen every other time, it's obviously a glitch which Ferguson need to address, I'm using a wired connection.

    Im completely baffled, anyone got any idea whats going on here?

    My MBC Stations are not coming through on KU_Arabsat under the 11919 Frequency but are coming through on C-Arabsat under a different frequency - but the strange thing is, I dont even have C-Arabsat ticked (love Heart) in teh Sat List.

    And all stations under KU-Arabsat have now no signal

    Pic 1 is MBC2 coming through on C-Arabsat
    Pic 2 shows I dont have C-Arabsat ticked

    I've updated my Ariva 250 box to the latest firmware V1.22B5 and I've done another new channel list,
    here is the download link for it if anyone wants it;

    A250-V1.22B5-Sorted-Mar2013.abs

    I've deleted all the junk channels and the channels are grouped by type.

    As usual, my Irish channels (Ch 52) may not match your location, so you can delete the terrestrial ones, then rescan, and move from the end of the list to the start.

    Hi guys. My mum just called me to say that all of her UK DVB-T channels have stopped working. I told her to do a rescan and now only Saorview channels are being picked up.

    Has anyone else experienced similar? She's in the mid-Louth area and things were working fine last night =/

    could be the weather

    the 250 tuner for uk dvb channels is quite poor compared to any other box/tv i used. it looses reception easy enough

    Cheers. Hopefully that's all it is! I had feared that the signal or power from whatever antenna is broadcasting had been reduced deliberately.

    When you say Eutelsat 28, do you mean Astra 2A?

    Should the LNB Frequency on 28 be 9750 - 10600 cause mine shows 9750 - 10550 - what does the difference do?

    eurobird its 28.5 astra 2 is 28.2 so you get them together

    On the Ariva 250 they dont actually come together - they are listed as two different sats - on other boxes, yes, they are joined together.

    Im just about to do a rescan on Astra 2, should I change the LNB Frequency to 9750 - 10600 please?

    yes the do a blind scan on astra 2 and u will get the eurobird in without selecting it

    Please correct me if Im wrong Tony, but it looks like the default settings on the 250 are 9750 - 10550, or is that just me?

    I just looked through all the other sats, well some of them, and Sats 13, 16 and 19 all go with 9750 - 10660. Its just 28 and 28.5 that go with 9750-10550

    Thanks very much for that great tip - by changing the frequency to 10600 it pulled in Sky Sports 2 HD - previously I used to have to go to 28.5 and just scan on the Sky Sports 2 HD Transponder
