Charles V in or around 1530 was the last to receive official Coronation from the Pope himself.
After that the title changed to "elected emperor of the Romans"... when the official coronation was deemed unnecessary.

    Is that correct ?

    Is that correct ?

Charles V was crowned in 1519 and abdicated in 1556 (not official until '58) with the Spanish Empire (including the Netherlands) going to his son Phillip while his younger brother Ferdinand became HRE.
As by then many of the German states were officially Lutheran so crowning by the Pope was no longer considered the done thing.

The last to use the title was Francis II until 1806 when Napoleon finally put an official end to the Holy Roman Empire.

    Have we a question?
