Delighted that both will throw, it pisses me off how often the top prospect QBs don't throw at it in recent years. If they're confident in their own mechanics it really should be easy enough for them.

Both QB's are in desperation mode now. Big mistake by Smith avoiding the senior bowl.

How was it a big mistake? All the QBs at the Senior Bowl looked dreadful, aside from EJ Manuel who was only okay, and he's not a threat to Smith anyway. Smith is being talked about as the potential #1 pick - he'd have nothing to gain and everything to lose at the Senior Bowl.

If anything, the gap between Barkley/Smith and the rest of the QBs was made obvious at the Senior Bowl which was a good result for them.

I'd disagree with you there to be honest. None of the 6 QB's at the senior bowl improved their stock. (EJ Manuel solidified his. 2nd round status)

Smith has had a very low profile since his bowl game. If he has spent his time wisely and worked hard he a a great chance to impress and distinguish himself from the rest of the QB's.

The one caveat is I wonder how much a slow 40 time will affect him. A 4.9 40 or there abouts would dissapoint alot of people I reckon.

Smith didn't improve his stock either. It was a great chance for Smith to not just make himself the #1 QB but to improve his stock as a top #5 player. He decided not to do that for whatever reason and I think that will put teams off. Look at Eric fisher, he didn't imrpove his stock as a LT. He was the #2 LT before the Senior bowl, he's still the #2 Lt but he did bump himself up at least 5 spots, if not 10. Smith could have done the same. If Smith had a great Senior Bowl you'd probably get the top 5 teams giving him a much better look than he's getting now.

If a top 5 team needs a QB, you can guarantee they're giving Smith as much attention as they can. A Senior Bowl appearance isn't going to change that. I'd go as far as to say the Senior Bowl is pointless for anyone who is already considered a top pick. Teams will have plenty of game tape, individual workouts, combine drills and one-on-one interviews to go on. Skipping the Senior Bowl wouldn't be a factor, and I doubt it ever has been for a QB looking to go #1 overall.

4.8 is pretty much the average for a QB who's not a dual threat.
    Why would it disappoint people?7

Think it'd be silly to use the #1 overall on any QB this year. Always so much focus on QB's where the real talent is in the O-Line and Defense this year.

On another note which round will Manti Te'o and Tyrann Mathieu go? In everyones opinion? I reckon last pick of the first/early second for Te'o and 4th round for Honey badger.

Most QB's who have gone #1 have been pencilled into that spot before senior bowl. I'd say most teams would view the senior bowl as more important than the combine drills(bar interview). The problem for Smith is that he isn't necessarily considered a top pick. Top QB maybe, but not top consensus top 5 for example.

Its hard to know with Te'o. I think that he will go in latter half of 1st round but he has alot of questions to answer at the combine (physically and the obvious lenny k ones)

I think the Honeybadger will go undrafted. He might sneak into the 6th or 7th if someone wants to take a chance.

Some good news, there'll be 3 non-QBs on Gruden's QB camp this year - Te'o, Joeckel and Lattimore. Should be good.

I'd really like to see Honeybadger in that kind of setting to see if it was just pure natural talent or if he does have the brain for the pros

Does that Gruden show be on ESPN America or do you have to go downloading it?

Also what are people's thoughts on Justin Hunter, he always seemed pretty good anytime I've seen him, but don't know where he'd get drafted.

On draft depth: "I think we've got more depth for the first three rounds than maybe any time you and I have done this draft, but I'm not seeing the difference-makers at the top end. Every year we've had a quarterback or a Von Miller -- I'm not seeing the explosive difference-makers at the top end of this draft, and I'm not sure the fifth pick is that much better than the 20th pick or the 30th pick. The good news is there's a lot of depth here."

Thats Mike Mayocks take on the depth in the draft. I gotta agree completely. There's only about 1 or 2 positions where you can point to the consensus best player at one position this year.

I think Te'o will go in the second half of the first and Mathieu could go anywhere from 4th to undrafted free agent depending on how he handles the pre-draft process.

Another player who I'm looking forward to following in this draft is Ray Ray Armstrong. They guy is obviously talented but he's also incredibly stupid. Having being suspended from Miami before this season and transferring down a level he was ruled ineligible anyway so didn't play at all last year.

I remember just after last years draft some had him going in the first round or early second in early mock drafts for this year. I think there's a very good chance he ends up undrafted, but he is a player who could be developed into an NFL started imo. Will be interesting to see what happens with him.

Been doing some scouting for the draft today seeing as I'm seriously bored!

Where do people see Lane Johnson (OT) going in the draft. Most people have him mocked in the first round. From what I've seen he looks a serious tackle and would suit the Packers heavy passing game. Helped keep Damontre Moore quiet in the game against Texas A&M and he's considered one of the top DE prospects.

(This is all in my very limited viewing of a few of his games)

As a Chargers fan we're in desperate need of a LT, if Fisher is gone before the 11th pick then i reckon Johnson will be the call. He's a really good prospect, needs to put on a bit more muscle but technically looks the great. Could be a year or two before he fulfills his full potential but he he's plenty good now too.
Consensus 3rd best tackle at the moment

He was very good in the Senior Bowl and they are talking about him running a 4.8 40 at the combine. It all depends on where Joeckel n Fisher go.

Chiefs, Eagles, Lions n Cardinals could all in theory need or want a tackle so its very likely those two will be well gone in the top 10. The Chargers seem like a great fit and I think worst case scenario is that he goes to the Rams 1st pick.

Ah, don't you just love this time of year? The time where the thick and barely functional idiots who can't stay out of trouble for a couple of months separate themselves from the rest of the herd. Step right up, Alec Ogletree.

As the comments afterwards sum it up: you've lost first round draft money, and are almost certainly going to play for Detroit.

Ha ye're gas men! Crucify this kid who gets done for a DUI while no less than a couple of weeks ago half the forum was licking Ray Lewis' hole clean. Gas men!

You'll find there were more people on here disgusted by the way Ray Lewis has been turned into football Jesus than there were people "licking his hole". Gas man indeed. See whatever it suits you to see.

Schefter is reporting that he's heard Matt Barkley won't throw at the combine, on advice from his agents. Smart move delaying it until his pro-day if you ask me. I'm confident Barkley will go a lot higher than most are expecting.

I'm expecting top of the 2nd round (4th QB taken)

    What do you think?

1st round, and at worst, 2nd QB taken. Not worried about his stock taking hits now, because his game tape and interviews especially will make him fly back up boards across the league. Mentally and character-wise, he is literally the perfect QB.

I said mentally and character-wise. Tebow had the latter but none of the former. Big difference ;)
