The exemption link is working and i am exempt from F1 -F9 ...this is very tempting.
I am strongly considering switching just due to the flexibilty of acca.

    Any advice?

    Hi,

I recently registered to do the ACCA exams part time as I'm working in practise. I am hoping to get an exemption from F1.

I got a 2.1 from UCD studying Maths and Geography but did Accounting in first year as an elective and also Financial Maths as part of my maths degree.

Also I studied Accounting for the leaving.

Hoping to sit F2 and F3 in June.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks! :)

What advice are you looking for? The more specific you are the better the chances of getting a decent response.

Sorry really should have made that clear. Apologies.

How do I go about confirming if I am exempt from F1.

On the ACCA exemption inquiry my course does not come up.

A classmate of mine from Maths is also a trainee ACCA in a big practice (non Big 4) got exempt from F1 and he did Maths and Economics but didn't do accounting for the leaving cert.

So it would seem natural based on this that I should be exempt from F1.

What I looking for advice on is if people have had any experience getting an exemption when their course wasn't on the ACCA exemption inquiry portal.

Best thing to do is contact ACCA Ireland directly. It'd be a common enough request I'd say, and that's what they are there for.

If your course has not been assessed yet you'd have to forward them information such as exam papers sat. They'll let you know.

Most courses are covered on their database, but there's probably new ones to be assessed.

    Thanks Smcgiff,

I have contacted them and they will process my transcripts and get back to me to see if I am eligible for any exemptions.

Fingers crossed I'll get at least one.

No joy with F1 exemption despite having more of an accounting background than my classmate.

I emailed ACCA inquiring as to why I didn't receive an exemption and my classmate did.

    The replied:

"On occasion, ACCA receives enquiries from students who have received a different award of exemptions to a student who has completed the same qualification as them. There are numerous factors which could result in this happening, including:

    * the institution or campus where studies were undertaken
    * the type of qualification that was awarded
    * the programme of study undertaken
    * the subject major stated on the completion certificate, transcript or other documents
    * the modules studied during the course of the qualification
    * the year studies were commenced or completed
    * the date students registered with or claimed exemption from ACCA

In addition, ACCA's exemption policy is subject to review, which may affect graduates of the same programmes registering with ACCA at different times."

Quite annoyed tbh but sure nothing really I can do now.

Did any of the above apply to you, apart from time.

To be honest, you're better off. Plus it's an online exam - you could take it in a couple of weeks if you think your existing knowledge is good enough.

Apart from time registering, he did Maths and Economics while I did Maths and Geography so there would be different modules, but we did the exact same maths modules. I was awarded a 2.1 while he got a 2.2. I did business and accounting modules as electives while he did sports science electives. They are the only differences.

There wouldn't be much accounting in economics to justify a exemption from F1?

I don't mind to be honest, its more the inconsistency that I am annoyed about. Like considering his exemption I was certain I would be exempt.

No certainties I have come to realize.

Hey ...having economics in degree would definitely warrant an exemption if not a couple ...ACCA do not look at leaving cert. Subjects ..the leaving cert. in general is the min entry requirements. Best of luck with your studies. ... Leaving cert. Accounting will stand to you!!!

Harsh on missing out on the exemption. I have an Engineering undergrad and Business Management Masters and was only exempt from F1. I chose to forego it as wanted to start at the beginning, as I'm in industry (and not even in the accounts department) rather than practice. Immediately regretted it. F1 is the biggest load of horse**** on earth. Strongly suggest you don't fork out for lectures on this muck. The BPP or Kaplan textbooks and revision kits (as well as, largely, common sense and experience) will be fine to get you through it with flying colours.

F2 and F3 handy too, although F3 might take a while to get used to if learning double entry for the first time.

    Good luck!
