That was my favourite too :). Hopefully there'll be a few of time. I think they're replacing the treasure levels from Origins, which were possibly the highlight of it for me.

Disney Infinity, a new game that's coming out for Wii U, 3DS and Wii in June 2013.

Just as in similar to Skylanders you can transport these disney characters into the game using a special portal called The Infinity Base.

Looks brilliant, but figures are going to cost getting on for €20 each, small fortune if its anything like Skylanders where you need a certain figure (or kind of figure) to open various parts of the game.

Skylanders are like crack for my lad so dare say these will be like heroin.

Also on other formats so think he will have to make do with PS3 version sadly. Unless Wii U have a big price drop anytime soon!

in smyths toys, u can get 3 figure set for €45 of skylanders

even so figures cost €18.99 each separately

im sure they sell the disney figures

    as same way as skylanders

Disney Infinity has the potential to destroy Skylanders. Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Indiana Jones. Just imagine, Han Solo meets Wolverine, Fantastic Four and the Incredibles, Iron Man and Buzz Lightyear, Darth Vader vs the Avengers. If they do this right, Skylanders could be screwed.

Have any of you played sky landers? Doesn't appeal to me tbh. Remember before Santa came I was in smyths and a man bought sky landers and few figures and cost well over 140 euro FFS rip off

I've played a bit of it at a cousin's house. It's pretty decent, certainly above average for a children's game, but it's definitely not worth the money required to unlock everything.

Yes but if you read the link it's literally happened at the last minute. The magazine would have been written a few weeks ago. This has only just been announced.

Not sure the market Skylanders has already got, the younger kids, has the same high opinion of Disney, Marvel or Star Wars for that matter. They relate to the characters of Star Wars as much to lego games as the originals! But you are absolutely right that Infinity could do over Skylanders, it has 4 player online, Skylanders has announced its doing figures you can mix and match different bits of them, but still only 2 player local.

Mostly its a bit too easy for older gamers, plays well enough though and they have made a decent looking game. The figures are expensive enough, and even the original adventures figures haven't really dropped a lot in price. The Disney infinity figures are going to be even more expensive.

Both games, and associated bits of plastic mean expense for parents one way or the other!

I'd possibly agree with you regarding Disney or Star Wars, although I think it's debatable, but would disagree with Marvel. With the success of the Avengers movie, and new movies being released every year, I think they've never been more popular with kids. The Lego Marvel games later in the year will only help matters.

The Pro pad is actually quite nice for playing blops 2 with.

I think you might well be proved right but I still think the avengers was for 12 year olds (in theory at least, and I know younger kids will have seen it), I just think Skylanders has pitched 5 or 6 years younger than that, and they are the ones more likely to get their parents to collect figures. You get to a certain age and it's no longer cool to collect figures unless you are a nerd (like me). Marvel have figures out for younger kids, the marvel super hero squad, they are fantastic, my kids love them, but they barely register on the shelves of toy shops here, even after the blockbuster films.

Time will tell, my hope would be a bit of competition might drive the prices down! And apologies for dragging the thread off topic.

I'm actually curious as to how long the interest will remain in them. The actual figures are pretty stationary so interest may wane when the next big thing comes along. That may be Infinity or it may be something else, time will tell. I can't see it being sustained.

To bring it more on-topic, how long before Nintendo jump on the bandwagon and release a Pokemon equivalent? They wouldn't even need a base, just use the NFC in the gamepad.

Also, apparently the graphical capability of the WiiU has finally been revealed through quite a difficult sounding process (it involved reverse engineering).

Jaysus don't give them ideas... The last thing we need is 650 rfid-enabled statuettes at 20 quid a pop...

the marvel / star wars thing could work if they incorporate it into normal figures and vehicles - so they function as standard toys that also work with the game. Even if it's just a matter of the toys coming with a small base stand (like the talking SW Episode 1 figures from about 10 years ago) that works with the game. Frees the figure up from having to fit the "portal" and be free-standing, makes it a more appealing toy for kids.

    Cough.. X and Y...700... Cough

Oh, of course you won't be able to buy some of the legendaries in shops, they'll only be available at certain locations for a limited time.

Actually, they could create a monster and release 28 varieties of Unown and regular and shiny versions of each Pokemon, the 4 formes of Deoxys, Genesect with the different drives, Arceus with the different plates and the 2 formes of Shaymin, Giratina, Kyuerem, Landorus, Thundurus and Tornadus. What is that, around 1500?

An excellent RPG series that can go extremely deep if you want to. It can offer a lot of different things depending on what you want. You can just play the main game, you can do all the trading and try to catch them all (good luck with that) or you can get involved in competitive battling. It's probably my favourite handheld series
