    I am currently doing an infosec masters and can't seem to find a topic that is both interesting and meaty enough for research. Any feedback appreciated.

    Some topics
    *Honeypots, build a web, ssh or network based one, grab data, write report
    *Visualisation, get data from security devices or logs. make fancy 3d graphs
    *Mobile, Android phone vulnerabilities or review some banking grabber malware app
    *NFC (Near field communication), sniffing and hacking the data on them
    *Raspberry PI, build a password cracking cluster or wifi sniffer.

    Security Defined Networking is [zoolander] so hot right now [\zoolander], but the security implications of SDN (both good and bad) haven't really been explored in much depth.

    Application Security is quite popular at the moment...have a look at www.owasp.org

    There are plenty of projects you could work on as a basis for your thesis.. drop me a line if interested.
