Hanging curtains within window recess ????

    howdy folks :)
Kids playroom is absolutely freezing. It's always colder than the rest of the house. It's facing NE so doesn't get much sun at all and there is a large window in the room. There are no curtains on the window ...just a roll down blind.
I presume adding a good pair of thermal curtains would help a little in retaining the heat in the room. Problem is when closing the door it comes within a few inches of the window board so hanging curtains the conventional way wouldn't work as there wouldn't be enough room.
Question is would hanging curatins within the recess look ok? Also would it be as effective thermally?

    I see the problem ;-)
You certainly could put the curtain in the window recess, it may not look fantastic (unless really well made & fitting perfectly) but will help a little with heat loss.
Have you thought about rehanging the door? May seem extreme but there is a lot of labour but minimal materials cost.
The light switch would be behind the door which brings its own set of problems of course.

Well spotted ...yes I was actually toying with the idea of doing something with the door. I might opt for that actually as in hindsight I don't think the the recessed look would be great. Might go for long heavy curtains all the way to the ground. Cheers :)

I actually hung them the conventional way. Makes a big difference heat wise.
