    Because it was going wide if it didn't hit him. When defenders turn a ball into their own net in similar circumstances they don't know anything about it and the opposition player only gets an assist. Same thing happens when it comes off your own player.

    Decent result today ff wise. Van Persie does well buy not enough for the RVP captainers, no clean sheets and quiet day from Suarez.

    Sturridge could be a big player. Linked well with Suarez. Very lively, reacted very quickly to the Gerrard shot.

    Vidic could be in the mix. 1 shot on goal and 1 goal. Don't matter how it went in. Defenders scoring always get a high ppi. RVP doesn't deserve any but the 3 wouldn't surprise me at all.

    its down as vidic goal. And it will stay so. Offside doesn't come into it, though I agree he probably was offside
