You could simplify by using a snorkel stove actually in the tub.

Nice work and well done on your project, shows what can be done with a bit of graft and ingenuity.
I know a guy who made his hot tub by buying a big old refrigerated milk tank that farmers use to store milk until it's collected, he cut the top off of it, made a few modifications to it and it works fine by all accounts.

Does he go by the name Matt ?

Wish you could get those exams out of the way to so we can see some more progress. All the best with them by the way.

Don't mean to hi-jack your thread but @ Fergal.b would you be able to do all the inside in fiberglass or would it work out too expensive.

What would be the process be, start with Fiberglass Cloth and then layers of Mat and then a Gelcoat finish.

On the boat I just lay the cloth over the wood and spread the epoxy on with a squeeze then another 2 coats using a roller or brush with a 3 hour gap in between, I used 6oz cloth but you can get heavier if you want. The cloth is from http://www.shorebreaksurfboards.com/ and I paid €4.95 a meter so if you add on the price of the epoxy I'd say you could do it for under €100.

    2011-09-27151035.jpg

When it's set you can leave it showing the the wood or primer and paint it like I did with the bottom.

There is no gelcoat used as you can get a perfect finish on the epoxy, if the tub is to be left in sunlight you would have to paint or varnish it for UV protection.

The inside is also epoxied so if I was to fill it with water and turn on the bilge pump it would make a perfect jacuzzi:D

I have returned. After a long hiatus due to any number of reasons. This is the new stages of the build.

    1) The original frame was reinforced further. The externals of the tub are lined with rockwool and 4" kingspan and then covered in DPC.

    2) The internal was lined with marine ply 1" and coated in MMA.This will be coated with aqua marine decorative flake with a mild glitter and finished with a further coat of clear MMA

3)Heating system consists of a 1" 4.5m length of steel pipe shape to fit in to a stove/furnace.(This has yet to be decided on) with a sink hole and drainage to the house main drainage.

    Left to do.
    1) heating system
    2)lid,steps/decking and lighting

We fitted 5 adults no problems all with plenty of room.Any questions guys ask away.

Looking good, would a long thin coiled pipe like in a still not be better for heating the water or even make your own solar powered heater http://www.reuk.co.uk/Solar-Water-Heating-Swimming-Pools.htm

I was think of a coil aswell and after asking around it wasnt cheap. The set up I have cost me nothing. If it doesn't work ,ill rethink and try again.I thought of solar but I was worried about how long would it take to heat but as I said and I'm sure you know ,its all trial and error .

How did the boat turn out ? It looks fantastic. What do you plan on using it for ? fresh water of sea ? so many questions...........

It's a V8 chevy  with a rotary steering system, there is a link to the build at the top of this page if you have any questions as I don't want to be hijacking your thread :)

Its going to be a rocket.

I bought a cheap out door coal burner yesterday and had a make shift set up with the heating system. It took 5 hours to fill and heat and got to a highest temperature of 30c which is 8c of the recommended temp.It fits 5 adults with plenty of space,it would fit 7 if you all had no plans to be moving about.

We stayed in it until 2 this morning having a few boozes in the rain.I'm more then happy with the way its turned out so far.
I'll be setting up again tonight with a few small tweaks.Ill throw up a few more pictures .

    :D:D Only in Ireland!

Nice job in fairness. Even a simple version of the solar water heater would mean only raising the temp a little bit instead of from cold? 5 hours is a bit much?

    Class build, fair play.

Love the toy ship too :)

How about an awning or something to keep the rain off, maybe you have thought of it already.
