Kilmaley beat Clarecastle today in the Minor A hurling final by a point 1-16 to 1-15. Seemed like it was gonna end in a draw tbh. But then Conor Cleary I think, got an unreal point from a sideline cut into injury time
Anyone know what started the fight though?
Not sure if I'm allowed put this here but jesus, Daly and a few others could be in for a rough time here just going by this..

Thinking about to senior final today. Not seen either team all year so anyone any thoughts on who should win?

I think it's Newmarket's to lose today, Cratloe have a lot of miles on the clock with the replay and football as well, should be a great game, it'll be the first county final I've missed for a very long time.

As for the minor, there should be a bit of fall out over this, either that or the usual "sweep it under the carpet thing will happen", I spoke to 3 people who were at the match yesterday and they all gave the same account as to what happened, Clarecastle mentor went to accost a Kilmaley player, Kilmaley mentor got in between, Clarecastle mentor hit first, few more Clarecastle mentors joined in, Kilmaley mentor was hit the ground and was hit & kicked while on the ground, both the Clarecastle and Kilmaley mentor were sent off.

Newmarket bridged a 31 year gap by beating Cratloe 3-10 to 0-9 in the county final today.

KIB will be playing Dr. Crokes in the Munster club after they won the Kerry final.

    Was at the match.
Fight started when Clarecastles B Duggan slapped B Cahill of kilmaley in the back of the head off the ball
Romer attended to the Kilmaley player on the ground and seemed to shout something at either Duggan or ref. Then Clarecastle mentors piled in
Cute move on C/castle mentors as Duggan would have walked only for the confusion as it happent right in front of linesman Flan

Did Tommy Howard start the fight?

thought romer was serving a suspension?

Apparently Tommy Howard (Kerry Manager) started it and got a couple of shots in before any retaliation.

Romer was involved in an incident with a ref in the quarter final, but that's up for review as there seems to be a few conflicting stories and the umpire in that match may have been at fault as well, he is due a 48 week ban if what's supposed to have happened happened.

Romer seems to be in the right in this situation, would reckon he'll get a deal to stay mum?

Daly must surely be looking at a considerable suspension for this? That photo clearly shows the intent, the closed fist...not to mention that it graced the front page of some national newspapers and we're talking about an underage game here. Clare board will have to be seen to act here.

KIB desperarely unlucky today not to get something out of the game with Dr Crokes played in Quilty. 4 points down after two minutes.. but some come back to lose out by a single point in the end. Second half totally dominated by the "Super Bricks".. just ran out of time in the end. Two outstanding saves from Crokes keeper kept them in front.. Goals win games unfortunately.Second half changes kib made worked greatly and one would have to wonder what could have been if these changes came earlier. I was sitting few seats away from the legend "Micko" and im sure he will be delighted to see such a spirited fight back by the kilmurry boys and he circled 6 names of the kib players on his program ( make wat u will of that).

So, with the number of senior teams from Clare being reduced from 20 down to 16, any ideas on which of the 5 clubs that will pull the short straw are?(remember there is one intermediate club coming up)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,091 ✭✭✭BnB

How are they going to do it do you know. Will they go away from the Senior A/B they had this year.....

These clubs should be safe, barring a disaster...
    Clonlara
    Crusheen
    Cratloe
    Ina-mona
    Kilmaley
    Newmarket
    Sixmilebridge

These clubs will be borderline, but probably should survive. Wouldn't be surprised to see at least 1 from this list go though.
    Broadford
    St Joes
    Clarecastle
    Clooney-Quin
    Tulla
    Tubber
    The Mills
    Ballyea

These are the clubs that are really in trouble.
    Scarriff
    Eire Og
    Wolfe Tones
    Killaloe
    Ruan
I would kind of back Scarriff to survive. They just seem to never fear anyone and I think might do enough not to end up in the dogfight.
Eire Og - I think it's kind of up to themselves. They should have enough players to survive it, but will they hurl...?
Wolfe Tones - In serious trouble I think. They need a major transformation to convince me otherwise.
Killaloe have just lost too many players to survive. I can't see them holding on.
Ruan - Just up this year. They were the best team in a p1ss weak Intermediate Championship. I'm not sure they have enough to stay up with the big drop.

No, senior A and B will be kept. The top team in each of the 2 Senior B groups will be safe from relagation. The other 6 Senior B teams along with the bottom team in each of the 3 Senior A groups are all then in danger of going down. Think it's a draw between all those teams but not sure exactly how it'll work.

An awful lot will depned on the group draws. It's a massive year for a lot of clubs to stay up!

The bottom team in each of the two senior B groups will be relegated to intermediate. The final three teams to be relegated will come from the fourth place team in each of the three senior A groups and the second and third place teams in the two senior B groups.

In 2014 the senior championship will be run on an open draw basis with 16 teams, with a backdoor system ensuring that all teams have a minimum of three games.

Round 1 - 16 teams play in eight first round games.
Round 2 - Eight round 1 winners play-off, with winners going to championship quarter finals - four losers go into round three.
Eight round 1 losers play-off with winners qualifying for round 3 and losers going into relegation play-off.
Round 3 - Four losers from the winners play-off in Round 2 play the four winners from the Round 2 losers group - losers from this round go into the semi-finals of the Senior B.
    Round 4 - quarter-finals with Round 2 winners playing Round 3 winners.
Round 5 - semi-finals on an open draw.

Senior B will be ultra competitive next year, very little room for error

That was interesting motion that Pat Fitz got passed at the annual convention:

The number of county board meetings reduced to 6 per year. An extra meeting(s) can be called as long as at least 4 clubs make the application.

The more interesting part of the motion is that from now on club chairman, secretary, board delegate and most senior team manager in the club can attend any board meeting. It would make it interesting if any County team manager wants a round of the club championship postponed. No club could complain too much if their manager has the opportunity to talk and vote against it.

Miltown Malbay are surely the favourites for this. Does anyone know where to get the odds for this championship?

Yeah last night's win was crucial after the blip against Waterford. Clare on 4 points, Waterford will need another win now, Kilkenny v Waterford could be the relegation playoff!
