    Thanks.
Does anyone here participate in any of the grant schemes? if so what are the pros and cons. I'm thinking of going down this route and wouldn't mind some advice.

Just be clear that ifyou do go down this route, your land is tied up in forestry forever.

the 1st and 2nd grant are payable to help with the plantation and then the premium on page 16 is payable each year per hectare is that how the payments work?

the first grant installment is to get the plantation into being, according to the rules laid down by the Forest Service, and , occasionally, accordingly to the sometimes questionable demands/views/ideas of the forestry inspector for the county.
Once he/she signs off on it, you begin to receive an annual premium.
At year 4 there is a Forest Service inspection to see that the plantation is growing well and is sufficiently stocked. If so, you receive the second grant payment.

The first and second installation grants, are the payable based on the work being completed or based on the price paid to get the work complete i.e. do you receive the grant value once the work is done or do you receive the grant based on receipts for the price?
    Thanks again

There should be a breakdown of how to cost the plantation, and usually it comes in above the grant aid- this is I think in the afforestation book of rules and regs etc, so you will get reimbursed for all your outlay- call your Teagasc forestry person, and they will run thru it with you

Very simple. Call a private forester and have them go through it with you. End of
