Does anyone remember the mobile that AIB was giving free - student accounts in 1999?

In 1998-2001 AIB were giving a free mobile phone when college students opened a student account with them. I think it was either a sony ericsson or a samsung, but I could be wrong. It was a black brick, slightly round at the top and had a stubby aerial.

Any ideas what the model was?

It was a Siemens C35

Think i know the one you mean. was my brother's first phone.
I'm nearly convinced it was a Sony, but can't remember the model name and can't dig it up anywhere so far

Yeh I'm fairly sure it was Sony too, but didn't want to narrow it down too soon. They were given on the Vodafone network.

No it was all black and was a little roundier than this.

..was it not a rather stodgy Motorola model of some sort. The C35 came out in 2000, I'm getting Deja Vu, no reason why they didn't change the phone in the offer.

Was it the Mitsubishi Trium?
I started college in 2000 and thats what i got... cant remember if it was from Aib or Ulster Bank, pretty sure it was AIB....

That's the one I got. Siemens M35 with the rubber back. . .I'm fairly sure it still works although it's buried under a bed in my folk's house

BOI were giving them out from what I recall. I started in 2000 as well and bloody everybody had one of these.

Those other ones being listed (Trium and Siemens) were later on. I started college 1998 and I think that was the first year of the mobile phone offers. AIB had a Motorola and I'm pretty sure it was this one or similar with the flap on it. I seem to remember it looking more like the second image below but with a flap on it.

Think the following year then they moved on to this one without flap.

Ah brings back memories! I was the first person I knew to send a text message (no doubt they'd been around a while at that stage, but none of us had encountered them!) while meant to be studying for exams in I think in Summer '99 (or may have been Winter '98). I remember us all wondering what the point was of them! One annoying feature of one of these phones was that if you were typing a text and a call came in you lost it!:rolleyes:

It took me all day... Well not that I looked all day! It was a Philips C12 Savvy!!

I hated it. Got myself a Nokia 3310 which I had for years. I miss that phone!
