it was up slightly over the bank yesterday, but we have had a lot of
heavy rain last night. mount talbot up the road is usually fishable when ballyforan is in flood.
i might be going to ballyforan later. ill keep an eye out if I'm there, and
    give a report.

thank you. we decided to go tomorrow morning and take our chance - and i'll keep other place in mind (i actually thing been there before - there is like little stream flowing into suck and couple of shallow sections...).

The fisheries board should really look into installing a webcam on the Suck.

    way flooded...
Ballyforan we couldn't even get close to normal bank in chest waders. athleague way too fast, that other place up the river flooded - walkable to the bank, but entire bank about foot under water - no dry spot for all your tackle.
Finally we ended up in shannon bridge and scored nice blank ;)
    nice trip of 200miles+ ;/

How's the Suck now? Rain can't be helping.

Is the Shannon around Shannonbridge very high?

Is the Suck more prone to flooding than the Shannon?

Anybody know if the Shannon is fishable now up around Shannonbridge?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,616 ✭✭✭8k2q1gfcz9s5d4

the suck floods very easily. the banks of the river are very flat, so in may places if the river rises 1 foot, its can come out 20 feet on the bank. It has been a disaster for the last few winters, being unfishable most of the time between oct and feb

Hi lads how was it over the weekend? Was up Thursday and it was pretty much unfishable. Has it gone down much since?

I think its ok at the moment, might be a bit high, but should be fishable

    Thanks again Frank. Appreciated.

in case someone interested: little bit high but fishable. 1 fish on shad, 0 fish on deadbait (4 rods).
I would say quite poor. Watch your umbrellas....

well i got used to it ;P
I'm mostly collecting stuff and talking about catching fish ;)
Oh yes and i'm also buying fuel and traveling all those miles to see where is the worst place to try catch something... ;)
My guess is we started around 8am and left at around 2-3pm.
2 guys with deadbaits and 1 with spinning.

Has the suck dropped much this week?

  • Registered Users Posts: 335 ✭✭dvae

i passed over the suck in ballyforan last tuesday and it was very high. (out as far as the car park)
given that it hasn't stopped raining here all day, i say its still badly flooded.

Its not too bad, a bit high but most places will be fishable.

Keep an eye on the ballyfroran club's facebook page, we try to upload a pic of the river every weekend.
