same old failings, get into good positions, but lack composure and poor final ball destroying us - the few times we create clear chances we blow it anyway

shelvey and sterling were poor today

hanging on in the second half, we should be battering a side like that, two or three quality additions in january or it's midtable all the way for us

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,299 ✭✭✭djPSB

Serious lack of character in the side is more like it, I think.

The first half was controlled and we created plenty of chances and should have been at least 2 up.

Like against Reading, anxiety set in during the second half.

I don't think it is a lack of character to be honest.

The work rate and determination was very good in general.

We just don't have enough natural goal scorers.

Need two wingers and a striker.

7 poiints of 4th. Arsenal and Chelsea in dissaray. The Blue****e are 4 points ahead of us despite the great season their having. West Brom wont last the pace. Stoke, West Ham and Swansea arent good enough for 4th. We are only going to get better in January. Anybody else think 4th is between us and Spurs?

    7pts off third sounds better.

Our play in the final third was not the worrying part of that second half. We are well aware of those failings.

Defense falling deeper, the ball being hoofed out of defense in a panic, 2nd to many balls, sloppy passing . . . just like against Reading.

    And they were right. :)

Four points off fourth is hardly 'not lasting the pace'. They challenged right till the end.

If we are in touch and can sign a decent striker in Jan, I think we can push for 4th. Two big if's though!!

Not a hope of 4th with the current squad.

Should be winning games like that by 3 or 4 goals.

I am sure 'The Rodgers' checks on here before pulling out his phone and going through his contacts for a player to sign so I just want to highlight at no time today did this game call out for a player like Daniel Sturridge to come on and contribute anything.

    Lack of goalscorers.

I've no confidence in any of them to score bar Suarez. Why Rodgers kept Sterling and Shelvey on today is anybody's guess.

At least the reintroduction of Lucas has created balance in the midfield though with Gerrard looking better and Allen even venturing into the opposition box at times.

The Sahin Situation is strange, maybe predictions of his attitude not being right were correct? If Henderson is getting a game in front of him something must be up.

As i said after the last game, Sterling neeeds a rest.

    Positives would be that:
    - Southampton never looked like scoring and I don't think they even really had a half-chance of note. I could be wrong, but apart from 2 long-range efforts from Lambert I can't remember anything.
    - Lucas got through the game and our midfield looked more balanced. Lucas' passing wasn't good, but that will come hopefully with games.
    - Allen and Gerrard were better
    - Enrique has continued to impress
    - We created loads of chances.

The defence and midfield are good enough to compete for top 4.

The front 3 bar Suarez aren't good enough. Sterling isn't contributing enough assists and goals nor should he be expected to at his age. Shelvey does 5 good things in a game but then he does 5 ridiculous things.

Our defensive record is up there with the best in the league, our goal scoring record is that of team in the bottom half of the table.

I don't blame Rodgers for this as he can't address all problems in one window.

I don't know why I feel so disappointed. We played really well and won the game. Yeah, we could have scored more but one was enough. Maybe it's because of the Suarez yellow or because we are still in the bottom half. I was over the moon with Wigan victory but today almost feels like we lost

    I'd say we'll finish 7th or 8th.

Lad would any of ye be available to play up front against West Ham?

I'm a similar height and build to Peter Crouch. Any good to you?

With 70% possession and 24 shots, we should be able to muster up more than one goal.

I don't know why people keep saying that they're losing faith in Rodgers after games like these... we know we need a striker lads. That's not changing regardless of how much we win by or don't. The important thing is that we're dominating games and creating chances. Easier to solve the issue we have in the transfer market than trying to solve an issue of just being a bad team.

Because Southhampton are shyte and we should have slaughtered them. So even though we won today it still feels like any other week.

Yes, once you pass the hit the woodwork test, I don't envisage any problems.

Theres a few and its pretty stupid.

This place is depressing even when we win! :D.....:(

3 points. Brilliant. Thats all that matter right now.

The Suarez ban was coming all he needed one was 1 yellow. This is probably the best situation for him to have a 1 game ban (and maybe he planned it?) as now he can play against Udinese and have a nice long hot bath for a week and a half before scoring a hat trick.
Shelvey or Gerrard up front versus WH? What about one of the pups coming in and playing?

You can throw a blanket over the is league right now, 3rd Chelsea/Spurs on 26, 13th Norwich are on 16, if Liverpool can keep it together till January a decent 2nd half of the season still beckons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,066 ✭✭✭Washington Irving

Our goals for/against are about what you'd expect for a team in 11th.

11th in goals scored and joint 8th (with Man Utd) in least conceded

So its actually just goals for. Seems we need a decent finisher or two.

We really need to get things right in Jan. to capitalise on the all round poor standard from the also rans in the league so far. Oh i wish we had bought Michu.
