Wasn't there talk that Kenny wanted to send Coates out on loan this season if he was still in charge?

Yeah think there was. I'm all for loaning him out as he needs game time and reckon hell be a good centre half but if were gonna buy another defender while we loan him we might aswell kick him in the nuts while he leves the door of the club

Ince and Sturridge have basically the same game, starting from wide left/right cut inside and pass/shoot, the difference is that Ince has found the net 11 times this season and would cost less than half the Chelsea player.

Taarabt scored 19 goals in the Championship one season and hasn't been able to hit a barn door with a banjo since.

If we're patient, we can get Sturrige for about £6 million I reckon.

Think we were linked with Nolito last summer and again in the last two windows under Kenny.

Rodrigo is the player at Benfica that looks as if he has the tools to go on to be a very good player, but he is young and very unproven so far.

De Vrij is an odd rumour, think we were linked with him before. He is pretty much a bit of an Agger clone in terms of style of play as in solid but very comfortable on the ball. If we did not have Coates then it would make sense, but unless Coates is totally out of favour (and we want rid) then getting De Vrij does not make sense.

Tbh I dont understand why Coates has been consistently overlooked by several managers at Liverpool when he keeps his place in a Uruguay team loaded with talent. I know the guys a bit raw & can make mistakes, but we paid something like 6m for him, surely he should be getting some gametime in the first team by now.

Maybe Coates can a loan swap with De Vrij, then bring him back in 12/18 months if he develops and you'd have two players ready to fill in for Skrtel/Agger.

Makes sense when it is put like you just have, but both Coates and De Vrij are very much right sided CBs and both are similarish in their style of play (although De Vrij at this point looks a better passer).

But I will take talking about potential or rumoured transfer targets over the Kenny/Rodgers debate every time. :)

True but look who he has been managed by! I think Ince time at the Seaside can be seen as an interesting loan period where he's learnt his chops. I think Rodgers would like him as as asset.

I would be of the same thinking tbh. The guy looks to have plenty of talent and, as you alluded to, his form at international level is quite impressive.

Patient ?? Who the f**k wants him? He is a nothing player going no where. If we are truely reduced to buying tripe like him we are also going no where.

Are Uruguay missing a couple of centr backs through injury lately?

I do believe there's substance to the QPR link to Joe Cole this time unlike all the other times.

Yeah I agree. Its seems Arry called him a "Top Top Player" :)

Has Harry been talking about him already?

Gary Hooper & Victor Wanyama - I reckon they'd be great additions.

If we don't have huge money to spend I wouldn't be wasting it on one unproven English talent like Sturridge.

When I look at what is above us in the table - West Ham, West Brom, Fulham, Swansea , Stoke and Everton it makes me cry a little inside as to how far we have fallen from grace.

The outrageous money wasted on Henderson, Downing, Carroll, Adam £80mill or €100m will haunt us for the next decade.

I remember he was on TodayFM just before we signed him and he was asked about Joe Cole and he said..

"Joe is a talent and I would love to have him at Spurs but Liverpool are in strong for him"

that was the day I knew we would sign him. lets hope Harry still likes him as much.
How much will the club save by getting him off the books?

There's no way they'll pay his wages so we are probably stuck with him the next 18 months.

    Best deal ever.

My oul memory isn't what it used to be

    Question regarding Sturridge
When he was on loan at Bolton, did he play as the main striker or a wide forward cutting in and Davis as main striker.

One of his complaints at Chelsea is that he feels he has the ability to play the main striker role, he's not going to get that option with Suarez there.

I'd say he's one of the most frustrating players to play along side. Problem for Liverpool is not enough players making runs from deep & getting into the box, there won't be much incentive to do so if Sturridge is on the ball.

Godin and Lugano would be seen as the senior CBs alright, but since (and during) the 2011 Copa Coates has been getting a fair share of game time. He won the young player of the tournament in 2011 and seems to have pushed Victorino and Scotti out of contention for the third place CB (first replacement) slot for competitive games.

Godin tends to be the one that Coates replaces the most (Godin has had a few small injuries alright over the past 12 -14 months), but Coates has filled in very well and fits in beside either of Lugano or Godin in a pretty seemless fashion.

I think there is a very good defender in the lad, but he really needs to be getting regular football in order to advance his potential as he has not really played a lot of football in his overall career to date. Think he has less that 100 club games to his name to date so the slow down in club games that happened once he joined Liverpool cannot be helping him.

To put his lack of games into some kind of context using a player who is only a few months his senior. Henderson since joining Liverpool in the same summer as Coates has gotten almsot as many club games as Coates has gotten in his entire career. I think if Coates had even gotten half the number of games that Henderson did in that time frame, then we would have a much better idea about how good he may be, and also he would be far more settled into playing in England.

If QPR do make an offer it will probably be to pay a % of his wages on loan

Victor Wanyama I am a little familar with as he was very highly rated in the Pro league not to mention getting a lot of publicity for two awful tackles during his time there. He appears to be doing pretty much the same at Celtic as he was in Belgium and standing out as a result of his quality.

But Hooper and Matthews are two names I also see getting mentioned a lot. How good are those two? Have seen some Celtic games in Euope and the only one of those two that stood out for me was Matthews at full back. Given I despise the SPL and tend to avoid watching it, can anyone say what it is about Hooper and, to a lesser degree, Matthews that has people talking about them?

What kind of forward is Hooper? Is he a striker or a centre forward in style? Is he mobile and does he read the game well? I gotthe impression he might be nippy and quick on the turn. Pretty much an 18 yard box player rather than one who drifts wide to collect the ball. But my knowledge of him comes from CL games where Celtic would have been on the back foot more often than not so it was easier to look out for midfielders and defenders in those games.

Matthews from the little I have seen of him looks a fullback that can play on either side, looks quick and good in the tackle, but also looks the type who reads the play well so he ends up not having to make a tackle as he is in place to intercept the ball beforehand. Looks to have a good engine and to be good at getting forward. Would love to hear from anyone who watches Celtic as to whether or not that is close to the mark or if he offers something different to what I think.

Brendan Rodgers would turn this comment into positive reflection on the job he is doing.

It's pretty clear that Rodgers is out of his depth.

Any January transfer activity would merely be a sticking plaster. I'd be happy if we moved Rodgers on before the window and recruited Steve Clarke instead.

Given that we are broke, I really wouldn't trust Rodgers with the limited transfer kitty that we have.

Wanyama looks genuine quality. A ball winner but with good passing aswell. At 21 years of age he is going to make a great signing for whoever takes him off Celtics hands.

Re: Coates, i'd agree that the guy needs first team football. I'd like to see him loaned to an EPL club though. Disappearing onto the continent for a loan move would not bode well for his future with us. Swansea or Wigan would be good destinations for him I think for a 6-12 month loan where he could play week in week out.

I don't know why everyone seems to think we are broke. And people, please give Rodgers until the end of the season before calling for his head. It's embarrassing. You might not like how things are going, and it's quite obvious that everything isnt rosy, but give the man a chance to fix the problems in the squad before calling for him to be sacked. He's had one transfer window, one in which he wasnt exactly backed unequivecly.
