While I'm on the subject is there not meant to be some once in a million years alignment of the planets next month.
Was there some historical thesis that this alignment was meant to be the Star of Bethlehem or am I smoking something.
Will any of this happen before the world ends on the 21st.

I see Jupiter every night. The moon was quite beautiful earlier, but it was even better earlier this month when it was half way through its phase and you could make out the dark shadow. People really dont appreciate the night sky, you can see jupiter every night it isnt cloudy, as well as other planets.

People need to view the moon and think more than just its a bright circle. Infact its a gigantic sphere, orbiting our planet hundreds of thousands miles away. Its like something straight out of star wars, its like another planet  amazing

Uhm...a once in a million year event that will happen twice in two thousand years? This is exactly the kind of consistency I have become used to from people talking about astrological alignments.

The most bizarre part of that idea isn't Jupiter's lack of a disc.

there's two stars beside the moon, which one should i look at

It's cool alright. Its been every night the past few months you could see it in the east/south sky. If anyone has a pair of binoculars have a look i can see the moons around jupiter too! You can see venus in the early morning which is even brighter.

    Anyone interested should download stellarium.

Wasn't really worth going out in the cold with a tripod. All I can think about now is Bart Simpson saying "Wooow... the universe is soo boring".

It's a lot closer than that - only ~240,000 miles away.

Both, one is the planet Jupiter, and the other is the star Aldebarran.

Both are immensly larger than earth. Especially Aldebaran, its just mindblowing.

Its not millions of miles away.

I saw jupiter earlier. I saw a planet beside the moon and i thought 'oh hello. what planet is that beside the moon?' so I used google sky map (free android app) to tell me.

Satisfied, I got into my car and drove home from work.

It's really quite lovely. There were some beautiful sunsets this summer with Venus and Jupiter near each other in the west, with Mars keepin it real over on the other side a little later on.

Thanks for the correction. Even better I suppose. It may as well be endor :pac:

And before I go to bed, may I recommend the free program called Stellarium. Explore the sky without even leaving the comfort of your own chair
